Caption transcript for “Days of Remembrance: Shavuot”

  • 00:06 50 days after Passover the Jewish people celebrate
  • 00:08 harvest and receiving the Word of God.
  • 00:12 To followers of Jesus it is also the birth
  • 00:14 of the Church through receiving the Holy Spirit.
  • 00:18 Join us as we connect history and prophecy
  • 00:21 for Shavuot.
  • 00:26 Shalom -welcome to our program,
  • 00:27 I'm Myles Weiss
  • 00:29 And I'm Katharine Weiss.
  • 00:30 We are bringing you program about Shavuot .
  • 00:32 Shavuot- known to the Christian Church as Pentecost.
  • 00:35 Have you ever wondered why the Church was born
  • 00:38 on Shavuot - the day of Pentecost?
  • 00:40 Well there's a reason for that
  • 00:42 and God says, [speaking in Hebrew]
  • 00:50 So God knew what he was doing
  • 00:52 because he has His appointed times.
  • 00:54 This week and upcoming weeks we will be seeing
  • 00:56 the Church around the world celebrate Pentecost.
  • 00:59 The Jewish people will be celebrating the Feast of Weeks.
  • 01:01 Same thing.
  • 01:02 WOW!
  • 01:03 It's so true that God has a calendar
  • 01:06 and He's awakening His Church to be on His calendar.
  • 01:10 So it's our privilege to
  • 01:11 bring you these teachings about Shavuot .
  • 01:13 Let's go now to hear Myles in Israel.
  • 01:18 You're familiar with the word "Pentecost"
  • 01:20 but the Hebrew " Shavuot "
  • 01:22 speaks of the Feast of Weeks.
  • 01:24 It's 50 days after Passover
  • 01:26 and it takes place 7 weeks and 1 day.
  • 01:29 It's the day after Shabbat,
  • 01:31 the 49th day.
  • 01:32 So 50 days - Feasts of Weeks.
  • 01:34 And it's one of the three major Feasts periods.
  • 01:37 We have Passover -
  • 01:39 Shavuot -
  • 01:40 and Sukkot -Tabernacles.
  • 01:42 Shavuot is a wonderful
  • 01:44 time of the year
  • 01:45 because it's the time of the wheat harvest.
  • 01:48 It's the time that we speak of
  • 01:50 the grain being presented before the LORD.
  • 01:52 In fact, two loaves of wheat bread
  • 01:55 being waved before the LORD.
  • 01:56 It's a picture also of the gathering in
  • 01:59 of the Gentiles towards Israel,
  • 02:01 towards the commonwealth of Israel and
  • 02:03 a wonderful time that looks forward
  • 02:05 to when Jews and Gentiles will worship
  • 02:07 the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob together.
  • 02:10 What a day that it's going to be.
  • 02:11 And what a day is coming
  • 02:13 as more and more Gentiles are recognizing
  • 02:16 the debt that they have to the people of Israel.
  • 02:20 It's spoken of in Leviticus 23:16-22
  • 02:24 as a harvest time
  • 02:25 a time of the new grain.
  • 02:28 And we speak of it as [speaking Hebrew]
  • 02:31 The seven species being recognized.
  • 02:34 But most importantly
  • 02:36 this time of year is the wheat harvest.
  • 02:38 The book of Ruth is a seminal part
  • 02:42 of this particular Feast.
  • 02:44 And it has special meaning for Katharine and myself
  • 02:46 as Gentile - Katharine
  • 02:48 and the Jew - Myles
  • 02:50 came into the harvest field together
  • 02:52 and have become one with the kinsmen redeemer,
  • 02:56 with Boaz in the harvest field.
  • 02:58 Now we see the seven species here
  • 03:01 recognized throughout Scripture as symbolic
  • 03:04 of the fruitfulness that God wants us to have.
  • 03:07 We have the wheat, the barley,
  • 03:09 the figs, the grapes,
  • 03:11 the pomegranates, the dates,
  • 03:13 and the olives
  • 03:15 out of which comes all the goodness of the Land.
  • 03:18 And 7 of course being the number
  • 03:20 of fulfillment or perfection.
  • 03:22 It speaks of the fullness of God,
  • 03:24 how God's desire is for us to
  • 03:27 offer ourselves up to Him
  • 03:29 together Jew and Gentile.
  • 03:30 And that as we see these 7 species
  • 03:33 we recognize that there is a progressive work
  • 03:37 that God wants to do in our hearts as He transforms us.
  • 03:41 That's why He tells us to present ourselves.
  • 03:43 Romans 12:1-2 tells us,
  • 04:01 That sacrifice,
  • 04:02 that offering,
  • 04:04 that time of thanksgiving
  • 04:05 is represented in the Feast of Shavuot .
  • 04:07 When we first came with Zola Levitt Ministries to Israel
  • 04:11 we landed in Israel on Shavuot .
  • 04:14 We went to a gathering where the
  • 04:16 Messianic believers were gathering together.
  • 04:18 They gathered all night
  • 04:20 whether they were Secular Jews celebrating,
  • 04:23 or observant Jews worshipping,
  • 04:25 or the Messianic Jews worshipping, including Yeshua.
  • 04:28 They gather all night long.
  • 04:29 The book of Ruth is read.
  • 04:31 There's a time of recognizing
  • 04:33 that God is calling us to Himself.
  • 04:36 A wonderful time of thanksgiving.
  • 04:39 When I think about the book of Ruth
  • 04:41 its a very touching part of the Word.
  • 04:44 But it also has within it
  • 04:46 an exhortation to the Gentiles of this world
  • 04:50 to knit yourselves to the Jewish people,
  • 04:55 to the support Jewish people,
  • 04:57 to support Israel,
  • 04:59 and together to find the purpose of God for this time.
  • 05:03 In Ruth 1:16 we read,
  • 05:05 [speaking Hebrew]
  • 05:15 And I believe that's a Living Word
  • 05:17 to the Church today.
  • 05:18 God is after your heart.
  • 05:21 He wants you to say within yourself
  • 05:23 the God of Abraham,
  • 05:25 the God of Isaac,
  • 05:26 the God of Jacob
  • 05:27 is my God.
  • 05:28 And the people of Israel,
  • 05:29 the Jewish people are my people as well.
  • 05:31 It's a mandate,
  • 05:33 it's a hope,
  • 05:34 it's a desire on the part of the LORD.
  • 05:36 One of the wonderful things about Shavuot ;
  • 05:38 and it's become a cultural practice
  • 05:42 of eating dairy foods.
  • 05:43 Why?
  • 05:45 Because we also believe that this
  • 05:46 represents the time from Sinai when the Word was given.
  • 05:51 The Torah , the "Teachings' of the LORD were given to Moses
  • 05:54 and therefore to the people of Israel.
  • 05:56 Now when we think of that
  • 05:58 we think of the nourishment,
  • 06:00 spiritual nourishment
  • 06:01 that comes from the milk of the Word.
  • 06:04 Now I believe that you are ready
  • 06:06 not only for the milk of the Word;
  • 06:07 partake of the dairy products for Shavuot ,
  • 06:09 but also for the meat of the Word
  • 06:13 because God is calling you to Himself.

  • 06:56 Hi, you know, so much is happening
  • 06:58 in the world today regarding Bible prophecy
  • 07:01 and especially in Israel too.
  • 07:03 This is the lens through which
  • 07:05 everything has to be told.
  • 07:06 And that's what we're doing
  • 07:08 here at Zola Levitt Presents.
  • 07:10 We're only able to do it as you're able to give.
  • 07:12 Your generous donations keep our program going.
  • 07:15 So please continue to give as you are able.
  • 07:18 And we will continue to bring you
  • 07:21 the news through this Word.
  • 07:29 Shavuot -
  • 07:30 one of the 3 Feast periods of the LORD.
  • 07:33 Remember these are the Feasts of the LORD,
  • 07:34 not the Feasts of the Jewish people.
  • 07:36 That means we all can learn something from them.
  • 07:39 This one in particular points us to gratitude
  • 07:43 to God for the harvest,
  • 07:45 particularly the wheat harvest.
  • 07:46 But also, there's an incredible parallel
  • 07:50 between the receiving of the Torah ,
  • 07:52 receiving of the teachings of God.
  • 07:54 You know the King James has
  • 07:56 erroneously translated " Torah" as "Law"
  • 07:59 and therefore it set up what is called
  • 08:02 a Marcian heresy,
  • 08:04 a Marcianite heresy where we think of
  • 08:06 the Old Testament, the Tanakh ,
  • 08:08 the Hebrew Scriptures, the earlier Testament
  • 08:10 as full of law and judgment and difficulty,
  • 08:13 and the New Testament, the B'rit Hadashah
  • 08:15 as full of grace and mercy.
  • 08:17 And it's an artificial separation because it's
  • 08:20 one story, one book, one God.
  • 08:24 And the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob
  • 08:26 manifests Himself with incredible mercy
  • 08:29 throughout the older Testament,
  • 08:31 throughout the Tanakh , the Hebrew Scriptures
  • 08:33 as well as beautifully in the New Testament.
  • 08:37 So we really need to do away with that separation
  • 08:40 and see the one whole story.
  • 08:42 I have a friend who says,
  • 08:43 reading the New Testament only
  • 08:45 is like coming into a movie theatre in the middle of the movie.
  • 08:48 You know how the story ends
  • 08:50 but you don't know why.
  • 08:52 We need to know that this is
  • 08:53 one long beautiful story that centers
  • 08:57 around the work of Messiah.
  • 08:59 The Hebrew Scripture's pointing to His work.
  • 09:02 The New Testament, the B'rit Hadashah , the New Covenant
  • 09:05 revealing His work in a beautiful manner.
  • 09:08 Now regarding those connections
  • 09:11 there's an amazing and wonderful parallel
  • 09:14 between what happened at Mount Sinai and
  • 09:16 what happened at Mount Zion.
  • 09:18 The word " Zion " actually means "sign".
  • 09:21 It points to something.
  • 09:23 And really Sinai, when the Word was received
  • 09:26 50 days after the leaving of Egypt,
  • 09:31 the Jewish people come to the foot of Mount Sinai
  • 09:34 and just as they gathered in
  • 09:37 Mount Zion in the book of Acts,
  • 09:39 in Mount Sinai the Word is given amidst thunder
  • 09:45 and lightning and this manifest
  • 09:48 presence of God Almighty
  • 09:51 thundering and shaking
  • 09:52 and just overwhelming the people
  • 09:54 gathered at the foot of the mountain.
  • 09:56 Well, similarly
  • 09:58 as Yeshua promised.
  • 10:00 When the believers
  • 10:01 gathered on Mount Zion
  • 10:04 the Spirit came to them
  • 10:06 with tongues of fire.
  • 10:08 There was a mighty rushing wind.
  • 10:10 The same kind of power,
  • 10:12 authority of God,
  • 10:13 manifest presence of the Lord,
  • 10:15 came to the believers,
  • 10:16 then birthed this new thing
  • 10:18 that God was doing in the earth.
  • 10:20 Its really called - at Mount Sinai
  • 10:23 "the birthday of Judaism".
  • 10:25 It is when this whole movement in the earth of people of God,
  • 10:30 people related to a Word,
  • 10:32 people related to the Word of the LORD
  • 10:34 were birthed as a family as a " Mishpachah ",
  • 10:36 as a new group of people,
  • 10:39 considered really the birthday of Judaism.
  • 10:41 And so it is on Mount Zion.
  • 10:43 In the book of Acts it is the birthday of the body of believers
  • 10:47 which you may call the "Church".
  • 10:49 I think of it as a body of a
  • 10:51 faith filled community through the centuries,
  • 10:53 birthed just like it was at Sinai for the Jewish people,
  • 10:56 again for the believers,
  • 10:58 Jews and Gentiles together.
  • 11:00 But the beginning of the Church world is completely Jewish.
  • 11:02 In fact, why were they all gathered there?
  • 11:04 Why did God choose this particular time to
  • 11:07 bring forth the Word and the power of God?
  • 11:09 Because everyone was in town for Shavuot .
  • 11:13 The genius, the mathematical genius of God
  • 11:16 was that it was one of the 3 Feast periods.
  • 11:18 Everyone from all over the world
  • 11:21 were there, gathered to celebrate the Feast.
  • 11:24 Perfect time to pour out His Spirit and
  • 11:26 birth the Church, the community of faith.
  • 11:29 The Israelites at Mount Sinai in Exodus 19
  • 11:33 became a body of believers,
  • 11:35 became a cohesive body working together.
  • 11:38 And so it is on Mount Zion
  • 11:41 that we experience the
  • 11:42 unity of the Spirit
  • 11:44 in the bond of peace.
  • 11:45 And this unified group,
  • 11:46 this new thing was
  • 11:48 birthed on Mount Zion.
  • 11:50 When the Jews gathered at Mount Sinai it was
  • 11:52 a time of a priestly calling being laid upon them
  • 11:55 because God has always intended the Jewish people
  • 11:57 to bring this Word to the world.
  • 12:00 One of the reasons aside from the spiritual cause
  • 12:03 of the hatred of the Jewish people,
  • 12:04 one of the reasons why the Jewish people
  • 12:07 have been hated throughout the world,
  • 12:08 throughout the centuries,
  • 12:10 is because of this Word,
  • 12:12 because we dare to be bold
  • 12:14 to bring this Word to the world.
  • 12:15 And it separates the Holy from the unholy.
  • 12:18 So it was also on Mount Zion
  • 12:21 that the priestly calling
  • 12:23 of the body of believers
  • 12:24 was poured out and created.
  • 12:26 It was a time of great joy at Mount Sinai.
  • 12:29 It was a harvest time,
  • 12:30 a physical harvest,
  • 12:31 the wheat harvest.
  • 12:32 The beginning of pointing forward
  • 12:34 to how we would celebrate this harvest
  • 12:35 throughout the centuries.
  • 12:37 And so it was on Mount Zion.
  • 12:38 A spiritual harvest
  • 12:40 setting up the beginning
  • 12:41 of a 2,000 year
  • 12:43 harvest of souls.
  • 12:44 Because of disobedience at Mount Sinai
  • 12:46 3,000 people died in sin
  • 12:50 but in the grace and the
  • 12:52 mathematical beauty of the LORD,
  • 12:54 in the book of Acts
  • 12:56 3,000 were saved
  • 12:58 when Peter stood up and preached at the Temple.
  • 13:01 At Mount Sinai this Word was given to us from without.
  • 13:06 But at Mount Zion it was placed within our hearts.
  • 13:08 And that's why Yeshua said,
  • 13:11 Wait in Jerusalem where you will be
  • 13:14 endued with power from on high.
  • 13:17 And I say to you today,
  • 13:18 every Shavuot , every day,
  • 13:20 Wait upon the LORD.
  • 13:22 He wants to meet with you
  • 13:23 in His beauty and strength.
  • 13:37 Our offer on this program
  • 13:39 Zola Levitt's book
  • 13:41 "The Spirit of Pentecost",
  • 13:42 an insightful look at Peter's stunning sermon
  • 13:45 based on Scripture from the Psalms
  • 13:47 and the book of Joel.
  • 13:49 The birthday of the Church
  • 13:50 is clearly explained
  • 13:51 as it happened
  • 13:53 on that dramatic day
  • 13:54 when the Holy Spirit came.
  • 13:55 "The Spirit of Pentecost"
  • 13:57 is also available as a CD.
  • 13:58 Simply call 1-800-WONDERS
  • 14:00 and ask for
  • 14:01 "The Spirit of Pentecost"
  • 14:03 Book, the CD
  • 14:04 or both.
  • 14:10 We're here in Israel
  • 14:11 and it's our joy
  • 14:12 to bring you the Feasts
  • 14:13 from the Land of Israel.
  • 14:15 There's so much in
  • 14:16 the Feasts of the LORD
  • 14:17 for us as believers
  • 14:18 to partake in.
  • 14:19 There's set times.
  • 14:21 There are times for us to understand
  • 14:23 the heart of God, the will of God
  • 14:25 and to also advance in our spiritual
  • 14:28 walk with God.
  • 14:30 It talks about the 7 feasts
  • 14:31 as a divine insight into the future.
  • 14:34 As we can see in Leviticus 23
  • 14:36 They are " moeds" of the LORD.
  • 14:38 They are " mikras " of the LORD.
  • 14:40 They are rehearsals for us
  • 14:41 to know what are to come.
  • 14:43 Passover pointed us to our Messiah- Yeshua
  • 14:48 being the Passover Lamb,
  • 14:49 The Lamb of God that took away the sins of the world.
  • 14:52 And he was so many other things to us.
  • 14:54 He was the "First Fruit".
  • 14:55 He was the "Unleavened Bread".
  • 14:56 He was our "Living Word"
  • 14:58 coming alive at Pentecost.
  • 15:00 Myles, we're here studying Shavuot
  • 15:02 with the 7 species before us, and they
  • 15:05 tell us so much about the heart of God.
  • 15:07 This is really the time of the year
  • 15:09 for the wheat harvest
  • 15:11 which is specifically significant to us as
  • 15:13 Jew and Gentile
  • 15:15 because the book of Ruth is one of
  • 15:16 the essential parts of this Feast.
  • 15:18 The entire book is read.
  • 15:20 People stay up all night
  • 15:21 looking into that book.
  • 15:22 We have a personal investment in that
  • 15:24 as Jew and Gentile coming together to
  • 15:27 serve, to know, to understand,
  • 15:29 to look at the wonder of
  • 15:31 The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob
  • 15:33 thru Yeshua .
  • 15:34 I have a personal delight in this because
  • 15:37 when Katharine first came home to meet my mom,
  • 15:40 my little Jewish mother in New York City,
  • 15:42 she was not so thrilled
  • 15:44 about me bringing a Gentile girl home.
  • 15:46 Beautiful though she may be.
  • 15:48 But at the end of my mom's life
  • 15:49 Not only had she come to faith in God and in Messiah
  • 15:53 but she recognized this face, this person
  • 15:56 who loved her and was willing to give herself
  • 16:00 to the people of Israel, to her son and to
  • 16:03 the Jewish people and the purposes of Israel
  • 16:06 in such a significant way that it became
  • 16:08 just a delight to see my mom touched by a Ruth
  • 16:14 coming to her as she was a Naomi,
  • 16:17 and together finding the kinsman redeemer,
  • 16:19 finding the beauty of the LORD, the beauty of Boaz.
  • 16:22 And what we're speaking to you today
  • 16:24 is specifically about Shavuot .
  • 16:27 And this book is read during this time.
  • 16:29 The Jewish people will stay up
  • 16:30 all night reading this book
  • 16:32 because Ruth did such a prophetic, profound step of faith.
  • 16:36 She said to Naomi,
  • 16:38 Your people shall be my people,
  • 16:39 your God, my God.
  • 16:41 Where you go I will go.
  • 16:42 And she went ahead for all of us Gentiles to wed ourselves to
  • 16:48 the purposes and the promises of God thru the Jewish people.
  • 16:51 And she herself became knit into the lineage of our Messiah...
  • 16:56 part of king David's life.
  • 16:58 Amazing that the Moabites were
  • 17:01 cursed by God and yet Ruth
  • 17:03 reversed that curse
  • 17:06 and remained faithful to her mother-in-law Naomi
  • 17:08 and faithful to the God of Abraham.
  • 17:10 And so she became the ancestor of king David.
  • 17:13 And as the ancestor of king David
  • 17:15 she became part of that lineage of the
  • 17:18 tribe of Judah and the birth of Yeshua who
  • 17:20 would come - prophecy to be from the Tribe of Judah
  • 17:24 and from the line of David.
  • 17:26 So David's greater son - we think of...
  • 17:27 the city of the great king in Jerusalem - Yerushalayim
  • 17:30 and David's greater son - Yeshua.
  • 17:33 And Ruth reversed that testimony and
  • 17:36 it opened the door for Gentiles to know
  • 17:39 the love of God thru the Jewish people
  • 17:42 thru the Messiah.
  • 17:43 It's an amazing story
  • 17:45 that has personal significance for us.
  • 17:47 But I think that there's a word in this for you as well.
  • 17:49 If you're watching this program,
  • 17:51 you're a Gentile person.
  • 17:52 Maybe you've been in a church your whole life,
  • 17:54 Sunday School your whole life.
  • 17:55 I want to exhort you
  • 17:57 to look into the roots of your faith
  • 18:01 to understand that you have a debt to the Jewish people,
  • 18:05 a debt to Israel.
  • 18:06 Everything that you have as a Christian
  • 18:09 comes from the Jewish people
  • 18:11 and is related to Israel itself.
  • 18:13 And I want to exhort you.
  • 18:15 I want to encourage you
  • 18:16 to be faithful to support Israel,
  • 18:19 support the Jewish people.
  • 18:21 Not only because as Genesis 12:1-3 tells us
  • 18:24 that you will be blessed as you
