Episode: “Life Laid Down”
Yeshua came down the Mount of Olives like a king; but in the Garden of Gethsemane, He surrendered His will to the Father’s plan. Interview: Carolyn Hyde, Heart of G-d Ministries.
Series: “Close Encounters with Yeshua”
This ten-program series focuses on how Jesus/Yeshua supernaturally came and ministered on Earth, and today calls all mortals to draw near to Him. David and Kirsten Hart introduce each episode from the studio, while Myles and Katharine Weiss teach in Israel, using dramatic re-enactments and interviews with Believers about their journeys to faith in Yeshua, the Jewish Messiah.

Caption transcript for Close Encounters with Yeshua: “Life Laid Down” (8/10)

  • 00:01 Hello Friends, I'm David Hart.
  • 00:03 And I'm Kirsten Hart.
  • 00:04 Today we have another
  • 00:05 wonderful dramatic reenactment.
  • 00:07 Myles is teaching in
  • 00:09 one of my favorite locations,
  • 00:10 the Mount of Olives
  • 00:11 and Gethsemane.
  • 00:12 And we have an interview with
  • 00:14 Messianic singer Carolyn Hyde.
  • 00:25 It was not long ago our first encounter
  • 00:28 on the waters of the Galilee.
  • 00:29 My hand is completely restored.
  • 00:32 He said, Your faith has saved you.
  • 00:36 I've heard Yeshua speak in our synagogue.
  • 00:39 He talked about the Kingdom of God.
  • 00:42 Then He showed us His wounds in His hands and His feet.
  • 00:45 I believe He really is a King.
  • 00:58 Shalom Havarim, hello Friends I'm Myles Weiss.
  • 01:00 And I'm Katharine Weiss.
  • 01:02 Welcome to our series "Close Encounters with Yeshua"
  • 01:04 It's pretty exciting Katharine
  • 01:06 We're at the point in the story where
  • 01:08 Jesus is about to head through
  • 01:09 the Garden of Gethsemane to the Cross.
  • 01:11 And everything in the storyline of the Gospels
  • 01:14 is getting more intense.
  • 01:15 Right.
  • 01:16 The identity of who He is, is being questioned.
  • 01:19 Many people around him are considering this might be the King of the Jews,
  • 01:22 this might be the Messiah.
  • 01:23 And so the opposition to him is growing, and growing very strongly.
  • 01:26 Yeah, it's the same tension today,
  • 01:28 when we want him to be Lord of all
  • 01:32 and that he is Supreme.
  • 01:34 You feel the powers that be resist him.
  • 01:37 Jesus came for the lost house of Israel,
  • 01:41 for the lost sheep of Israel.
  • 01:42 And he came to the Jew first
  • 01:44 and then he came for the whole world.
  • 01:47 And he is setting up his eternal rule even today.
  • 01:50 And so we want to continue to tell the story
  • 01:53 of our Messiah, the King of the Jews.
  • 01:56 So let's go now back to the drama
  • 01:58 and consider this Jesus.
  • 02:08 hmph
  • 02:10 He's back in Jerusalem
  • 02:13 again.
  • 02:17 hmph
  • 02:19 it was a welcoming the likes of which I've never seen.
  • 02:24 hmph
  • 02:26 He rode upon a simple colt this time,
  • 02:30 yet they paved his way
  • 02:33 with their robes.
  • 02:37 hmph...hmph
  • 02:38 They waved palm branches in the air.
  • 02:40 Praised him... as a King!
  • 02:43 hmm...hmmm
  • 02:46 I can still hear the friendly
  • 02:49 "Baruch haba b'shem Adonai"
  • 02:56 "Blessed he who comes in the Name of God"
  • 03:00 over and over and over.
  • 03:07 It's a passage from the Tanakh, "The Book of Praise"
  • 03:15 He recites Scripture all the time.
  • 03:20 Yesterday when he was here at the Temple
  • 03:23 he cast out the sellers quoting the Tanakh.
  • 03:29 [Speaking Hebrew]
  • 03:33 "My House...will be a House of Prayer."
  • 03:38 hmph...hmmmm.
  • 03:42 The High Priests, they want him dead.
  • 03:49 Our Scribes want him dead.
  • 03:53 But Yeshua has such an immense following
  • 03:57 it's just not possible.
  • 04:04 I happen to long for the Kingdom He speaks of.
  • 04:13 It is a hope that burns deep within me.
  • 04:22 I believe he really is a King...
  • 04:27 yet to be crowned.
  • 04:39 This is God's place.
  • 04:41 This is the place that looks towards "HaMakom"
  • 04:44 behind me, "The Place"
  • 04:46 the Holy of Holies is on the Temple Mount.
  • 04:49 Remember that the very City of Jerusalem is like a "Mezuzah".
  • 04:53 The Mezuzah is that article that you see
  • 04:56 on the inside of the gates.
  • 04:57 It means "Gates" and you see it on the inside of every Jewish home
  • 05:00 as people Bless the LORD on their way into and out of a home.
  • 05:04 And on that Mezuzah is the Hebrew Letter "Shin".
  • 05:07 It's a 3-prong Letter that looks like this
  • 05:11 and really pictures Jerusalem itself.
  • 05:13 There are 3 Valleys in Jerusalem...
  • 05:15 The Kidron Valley
  • 05:17 The Valley of Hinnom
  • 05:18 and the Central Valley.
  • 05:20 And the Valleys together form a "Shin"
  • 05:21 because this is God's entrance place into the earth.
  • 05:24 He dwelt here.
  • 05:25 He called Abraham here.
  • 05:27 David bought that place, the Temple Mount.
  • 05:29 And it is that place that Jesus Himself will rule and reign from.
  • 05:33 This is God's entry into the earth.
  • 05:36 Now, as I said, the idea that Yeshua
  • 05:39 was the Son of Man, was the Son of David,
  • 05:42 were controversial.
  • 05:43 But coming down here as the King,
  • 05:45 that was a tipping point.
  • 05:48 Jeremiah speaks about...
  • 06:00 Yeshua, Messiah had to come from the Tribe of Judah
  • 06:04 from the House of David as David's greater Son,
  • 06:07 the Eternal King that God promised
  • 06:09 would sit on the Throne of David.
  • 06:11 But here's the thing that's so hard for us to understand.
  • 06:14 He is 100 per cent "Man" and 100 per cent "Divine".
  • 06:18 "Man" in that Branch was part of the family tree of mankind
  • 06:22 "Divine" in that Branch could reach out and touch the entire world
  • 06:28 with the Good News of Salvation.
  • 06:30 "Yeshua", fully "Man", fully "God",
  • 06:34 fully available for you when you say "yes.
  • 06:44 We're a little further down the mountain now.
  • 06:47 The actual Garden of Gethsemane.
  • 06:48 It was a place, this very place,
  • 06:50 or something exactly this
  • 06:52 where Yeshua came to be "pressed out" for
  • 06:55 your salvation and for mine.
  • 06:57 In Hebrew [pronounced "Gat-sha-me"]
  • 06:59 [meaning] "The oil press"
  • 07:01 where the pressings take place
  • 07:03 to produce the product of the olive.
  • 07:05 The olive is a symbol of Israel.
  • 07:08 It's a symbol of the work of God in this Land.
  • 07:12 It was all prophesied by the prophets of old.
  • 07:25 He prophesied all that was taking place here.
  • 07:28 But first... the price had to be paid.
  • 07:31 Later on, on the Southern Steps
  • 07:33 Peter would preach in Acts 3
  • 07:35 that it was expedient,
  • 07:36 it was necessary for Yeshua to go through all of this
  • 07:39 in order for all things to be restored.
  • 07:41 He had to go to heaven for the refreshing to come,
  • 07:44 for the restoration of all things.
  • 07:47 And it's here where he knocked over the
  • 07:51 soldiers that came to get him just by saying, "I Am".
  • 07:55 You know, the "I Am" that incredible Name
  • 07:59 that is not said here.
  • 08:00 We say "HaShem", "The Name",
  • 08:02 rather than say what's called in Greek the "Tetragrammaton"
  • 08:06 the "Yud-Hay-Vav-Hay".
  • 08:08 But Yeshua identified Himself with that Name throughout the Gospels.
  • 08:12 In fact, in the Book of John,
  • 08:14 10 times He says "I Am".
  • 08:18 First we see here in the Garden when they come get Him,
  • 08:20 "I Am He".
  • 08:21 Where is Yeshua of Nazareth?
  • 08:22 "I Am He"
  • 08:23 and the soldiers fall backwards.
  • 08:26 He says in John, "I Am the Bread of Life".
  • 08:30 "Before Abraham was, I Am."
  • 08:34 "I Am the Light of the world."
  • 08:36 "I Am the Gate (or the Door)"
  • 08:39 "I Am the Good Shepherd."
  • 08:42 "I AM the Way, the Truth and the Life."
  • 08:45 "I Am the Resurrection and the Life."
  • 08:47 "I Am the True Vine."
  • 08:49 and "I Am Yeshua of Nazareth."
  • 08:52 He gives us that clear picture of
  • 08:55 identification with the Father,
  • 08:57 identification with God.
  • 08:58 And that's what was driving the religious and political systems crazy
  • 09:02 because He was saying, "I Am".
  • 09:04 Now, it wasn't without cost.
  • 09:07 It was here in this Garden that he experienced
  • 09:10 a rare medical condition called "Hematidrosis"
  • 09:14 which is when blood comes out through the sweat glands.
  • 09:18 It's such an agony, such a stress on the physical body
  • 09:21 that He sweat drops of blood agonizing
  • 09:23 over giving His will over to the will of Father for our sakes.
  • 09:28 He identifies with "Yud-Hay-Vav-Hay".
  • 09:32 Watch this:
  • 09:33 "Yud" - "Yeshua"
  • 09:36 "Hey" - "HaMashiach"
  • 09:39 "Vav" - "VaMelech"
  • 09:41 "Hey" - "Yehudi"
  • 09:48 identifying Himself as the King
  • 09:50 of your life and of my life
  • 09:53 forever identifying with the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob
  • 09:57 as the Beloved Son in whom the Father is well pleased.
  • 10:01 And it was here where he sweat drops of blood
  • 10:03 preparing for what was upcoming.
  • 10:06 He was on his way to the cross.

  • 11:01 it sends us back to do the work
  • 11:03 that God has asked us to do,
  • 11:05 which is to declare Jesus as
  • 11:07 a Jewish man and a Glorified Savior.
  • 11:11 Yeah, that's really a good word.
  • 11:13 We have the privilege of going for you but we're going with you
  • 11:16 because of your gifts of funds.
  • 11:17 So thank you for standing with us,
  • 11:19 for supporting this Ministry.
  • 11:21 We really appreciate it.
  • 11:22 Well we're in this place now in the drama
  • 11:24 where people are questioning the identity of Jesus.
  • 11:27 They're struggling with their faith.
  • 11:29 I think about how isn't that the story today?
  • 11:31 I remember when I came to faith in Yeshua
  • 11:33 it was not a simple a-b-c, 1-2-3.
  • 11:35 There was some steps forward and some steps back.
  • 11:37 And I had to really wrestle with who this person is,
  • 11:40 who is this Messiah, this man, this God?
  • 11:43 What is Jesus?
  • 11:45 And I thank heaven that he settled the issue for me
  • 11:48 And he wants to settle it for you as well.
  • 11:50 So let's pick up in our drama as this questioning is coming
  • 11:54 and there's this recognition of
  • 11:56 the struggle of faith that we see in Peter
  • 11:58 and is also seen by our character in the drama.
  • 12:00 And, you may have experienced it yourself.
  • 12:02 Let's pick it up now.
  • 12:07 I come to Jerusalem every year at this time
  • 12:11 It's a long journey from Galilee.
  • 12:14 But Pesach is a special time for all of us.
  • 12:18 It happened that we were close to Yeshua's group.
  • 12:23 We journeyed through Jericho together.
  • 12:26 The fisherman, Simon Peter,
  • 12:29 seemed especially taken by him
  • 12:32 intent on learning more with each step.
  • 12:39 Yeshua has fascinated me for some time.
  • 12:43 His closest followers seem especially devoted to him.
  • 12:49 Or at least, that's what I thought.
  • 12:56 Tonight the officers of the Temple Guard seized him.
  • 13:01 They said he was subverting the people.
  • 13:07 They took him to the house of the High Priest.
  • 13:11 I followed Peter wanting to know what he would do.
  • 13:19 It turns out he's not that devoted after all.
  • 13:26 When spotted as a Galilean and asked if he knew Yeshua,
  • 13:32 Peter said, No.
  • 13:37 Said he didn't even know the man.
  • 13:44 I'm confused.
  • 13:48 I've seen the miracles.
  • 13:51 I've heard Yeshua speak in our synagogue.
  • 13:53 I believe him,
  • 13:55 I really do.
  • 13:59 And yet, Peter...
  • 14:02 one of his closest...
  • 14:06 when questioned
  • 14:09 denies him.
  • 14:18 I am too from Galilee.
  • 14:23 What if they'll question me?
  • 14:35 Peter's denial brought so much confusion
  • 14:38 because it pointed out
  • 14:39 that any one of us could deny the faith.
  • 14:42 Right, there's always a struggle
  • 14:43 between the soul and the spirit Myles.
  • 14:46 Like you said, the Jewish people wanted a kingdom now.
  • 14:50 They wanted Yeshua to reign now.
  • 14:54 And he was setting up a different world view.
  • 14:56 It's such a different picture
  • 14:58 for us than for the Jewish people as a whole
  • 15:00 because Israel believes in a "National" Salvation;
  • 15:03 the day coming, a "Messianic" Kingdom,
  • 15:06 when the entire nation will serve God
  • 15:08 and there will be a time of peace and no war.
  • 15:10 And so it's different than the idea of individual Salvation
  • 15:13 that I think Christians are used to thinking about.
  • 15:16 Right, they are praying for Mashiach to come.
  • 15:18 They wanted him to be "The Lion" then
  • 15:21 but he knew he needed to be "The Lamb" first.
  • 15:24 There was a man who came up this way,
  • 15:26 Abraham, and he brought his son.
  • 15:28 God didn't require him to take his son,
  • 15:32 but he required Himself to give His Son.
  • 15:35 There's a fulfillment that comes in this place
  • 15:38 where Yeshua is setting up that he will have a different Kingdom.
  • 15:42 And I love that this morning when we were talking about this
  • 15:44 you reminded me that the donkey ride of Abraham
  • 15:48 is a parallel, a mirror
  • 15:49 of this donkey ride of Yeshua
  • 15:51 coming up to the same mountain
  • 15:52 first for the picture
  • 15:55 and then for the fulfillment.
  • 15:56 And we know that this time here in the Garden was a
  • 16:01 time of him in his own body to institute
  • 16:06 what would become the Cross,
  • 16:07 what would become his Kingdom mentality
  • 16:10 of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
  • 16:13 Romans 14:9; Paul will say that later.
  • 16:16 But it was not an earthly kingdom at the time,
  • 16:18 it was a Spiritual Kingdom.
  • 16:20 Yeah, "My Kingdom is not of this world."
  • 16:22 "My Kingdom is not meat or drink, but"
  • 16:24 "My Kingdom is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit."
  • 16:28 There's something that God can only give us
  • 16:31 and that is love.
  • 16:33 You know, the "Fruit of the Spirit is "Love".
  • 16:35 And once we receive Him we receive that eternal life and we
  • 16:39 receive that love that's able to go
  • 16:42 over the top of whatever comes against us.
  • 16:45 You know, this is the greatest,
  • 16:46 "the greatest of all of these is love."
  • 16:48 And he was instituting that love,
  • 16:50 for mercy would triumph over judgment.
  • 16:53 I love the way that Peter
  • 16:55 tries to institute the Kingdom, in the flesh
  • 16:57 by cutting off the ear of the [high priest's] servant in the Garden.
  • 17:00 What does Yeshua do?
  • 17:02 He takes the and he puts it back on,
  • 17:04 he heals him with a supernatural healing
  • 17:06 again saying that my kingdom is not of this world.
  • 17:08 Right, he would not take up a sword
  • 17:10 but he willingly laid his life down.
  • 17:13 No one took his life.
  • 17:15 But he laid it down for us.
  • 17:17 The Lamb was slain before the foundation of the world.
  • 17:20 He himself had to deal with his own flesh
  • 17:23 here in this Garden,
  • 17:24 here in the Garden of Gethsemane,
  • 17:26 here in the "Garden Press" Myles
  • 17:28 he was pressed to beyond measure.
  • 17:31 I think the greatest was that he would
  • 17:34 be separated from the Father saying
  • 17:37 "Nevertheless not my will but Thine be done"
  • 17:44 My...the battle for our will,
  • 17:47 the battle for allowing God's will
  • 17:50 to take our way, take our life
  • 17:52 is such a... it's universal.
  • 17:54 I think we all struggle with this.
  • 17:56 You may be struggling with that right now.
  • 17:57 The idea is that, "God you want me to go this way,"
  • 18:00 "and I really want to go this way."
  • 18:02 And the idea of letting him lead us in that way
  • 18:06 is something that Yeshua modeled for us here
  • 18:09 to the degree that he was agonizing
  • 18:11 over that very thought of being separated
  • 18:14 from the Father, on the cross.
  • 18:15 But he had to do that for you and for me.
  • 18:18 He had to win that battle of soul and spirit.
  • 18:21 He had to win that battle
  • 18:23 because he wanted to be, had to be
  • 18:26 that perfect substitute for you and for me.
  • 18:28 And really the battle was won in the Garden.
  • 18:30 It was finished at the Cross which is coming up.
  • 18:33 But the battle for humanity was really
  • 18:37 taking place in this Garden when Yeshua was here.
  • 18:40 You know he asked us, he asked the disciples
  • 18:42 to pray with him... 3 times.
  • 18:44 He went to them 3 times and said,
  • 18:45 "Could you watch for one hour?"
  • 18:47 And every time he went to them they were asleep.
  • 18:49 And I think about that time of
  • 18:51 going to the disciples and coming back...
  • 18:53 going to the disciples and coming back.
  • 18:54 And it really mirrors the "press of the olives",
  • 18:57 the "press of making oil."
  • 18:59 There are 3 "crushings,
  • 19:00 3 "pressings" that take place.
  • 19:02 And it mirrors that time of his asking us to be with him.
  • 19:05 1st pressing is for the anointing of the King.
  • 19:08 Remember this is "Har Mashiach" ,
  • 19:10 this is the "Mountain of Anointing",
  • 19:13 the Mount of Olives.
  • 19:14 The 1st pressing is the anointing of the King.
  • 19:16 The 2nd press is for Light for using it to light candelabra.
  • 19:20 And the 3rd is for cleansing and healing
  • 19:23 They would use oil
  • 19:24 to scrape dirt off their body.
  • 19:26 Think about that.
  • 19:28 The 1st pressing is the "kingly".
  • 19:30 The 2nd is "light".
  • 19:31 And the 3rd is cleansing and healing.
  • 19:34 The "King" came to this Garden
  • 19:36 to bring "Light" to the world
  • 19:39 and to provide "cleansing and healing"
  • 19:42 for you and for me...
  • 19:44 for us.
  • 19:45 Amen!

  • 21:08 it's crazy, it's loud,
  • 21:10 you can bargain prices down
  • 21:11 and it's an exciting part
  • 21:13 of real life in Israel.
  • 21:15 Come tour that country with us.
  • 21:17 We promise it'll change your life.
  • 21:21 And now here's Katharine's interview
  • 21:23 with Messianic singer, Carolyn Hyde.
  • 21:27 I grew up near Chicago,
  • 21:29 in an Orthodox Synagogue,
  • 21:31 and I loved growing up Jewish.
  • 21:34 My dad was the president of the Synagogue.
  • 21:36 And it was not only our religious life
  • 21:39 but our whole cultural and social life
  • 21:41 revolved around the synagogue.
  • 21:44 But when I got to be high school age
  • 21:48 it seemed like something was missing
  • 21:51 and I didn't know what.
  • 21:53 So I kinda went on a journey.
  • 21:55 I got into New Age and all this...
  • 21:58 When I was in the New Age
  • 21:59 everybody in there with me...
  • 22:01 they were all Jewish too.
  • 22:02 We were seekers and so at one point I was living in Mexico.
  • 22:06 I was a Hippy playing Blues Guitar in bars
  • 22:10 and I had a vision.
  • 22:13 I didn't know what to do.
  • 22:14 I was a secret believer for 4 years.
  • 22:18 During that time I just didn't know who I could talk with.
  • 22:22 But after 4 years the Lord led me to a Messianic congregation.
  • 22:27 And there I found I wasn't the only Jew in the world who believes.
  • 22:30 There are many more.
  • 22:33 Also I grew up thinking that Christians hated me.
  • 22:36 Cause I grew up with the stories
  • 22:37 of the Holocaust and so forth.
  • 22:39 And so, what did I know?
  • 22:42 And I found out in this congregation
  • 22:44 there were many Christians who
  • 22:46 loved the Jewish people.
  • 22:48 And that made such an impression on me
  • 22:51 that I went through a healing and a deliverance
  • 22:53 in that congregation.
  • 22:56 Tell us a little bit about
  • 22:57 your music and how God inspires you with your music.
  • 23:00 Aahh, okay.
  • 23:03 The inspiration usually comes
  • 23:05 when I'm driving or in dreams.
  • 23:09 I get a lot of them that way.
  • 23:11 Or, just in the course of my daily reading of the Bible.
  • 23:15 But the Lord has opened so many doors through the music
  • 23:19 to be able to share our faith in Messiah
  • 23:22 and just to be able to sing
  • 23:25 hope and peace and blessings over our people.
  • 23:28 And that's a privilege.
  • 23:30 Carolyn, we would love you to tell our viewers
  • 23:32 exactly how they can pray for you at this time.
  • 23:35 Could you look right in the camera and tell our viewers
  • 23:38 what would mean the most to you.
  • 23:40 Okay, well not just about me
  • 23:42 but about the Body of Messiah here in Israel.
  • 23:45 Because I'm a team player.
  • 23:48 And I would just like to say
  • 23:50 Thank you for praying for us,
  • 23:53 the "Remnant" of Israel.
  • 23:55 We believe that we are here for "such a time as this",
  • 23:59 that the Lord has planted us in the Land.
  • 24:02 And that we are Jewish Believers.
  • 24:04 And like, my husband is not Jewish but it doesn't matter.
  • 24:07 We're "One New Man" in Messiah
  • 24:09 working together to bring hope,
  • 24:14 the hope of Israel,
  • 24:15 the Holy One of Israel to our people.
  • 24:18 And, yes, we're having persecution.
  • 24:20 Yes, there are things that are not going well.
  • 24:22 But it's your prayers that are making a difference
  • 24:26 for us to be able to stay in the Land,
  • 24:28 to be able to minister in the Land
  • 24:30 and to be able to give Glory to G-d, The G-d of Israel
  • 24:34 in His Land.
  • 24:36 So "Thank you", "Toda Rabah".
