  • 01:59 But I grew up in Pennsylvania.
  • 02:01 It was interesting growing up because I grew up in a Catholic
  • 02:02 town and had an Orthodox Jewish grandmother on one side,
  • 02:06 and a Catholic grandmother on the other side.
  • 02:08 My father was born and raised in Pennsylvania,
  • 02:11 Polish Catholic family.
  • 02:14 They went to the Catholic charismatic meetings in the
  • 02:16 basement of the Catholic church, but my mom got saved.
  • 02:20 My mom and dad got saved at a full gospel businessmen's

  • 02:27 You could do the math but yeah, I'm almost 40.

  • 02:33 Joshua: Yeah, I didn't think you could do the math

  • 02:37 So, my mom was invited to come to this full gospel
  • 02:40 businessmen's meeting where Rabbi Martin Chernoff was
  • 02:43 traveling and sharing the message of the Tanakh from
  • 02:49 a Jewish perspective to Christian men.
  • 02:52 And these Christian men were saying hey to my dad, "Hey Andy,
  • 02:55 we've got a rabbi coming to town.
  • 02:58 Invite--bring a Jewish wife."
  • 03:00 So, my mom didn't want to hear anything about the gospel.
  • 03:02 She loved my dad.
  • 03:04 He was Catholic but she didn't care.
  • 03:06 You know, she was raised religious, but she was at that
  • 03:08 point where she believed in God still, but she didn't really
  • 03:11 want much to do with religious Judaism because she saw a lot of
  • 03:14 coldness.
  • 03:16 When she moved from Israel to America, she moved to the other
  • 03:19 holy land for the Jewish people, New York City.
  • 03:22 And but there it was, it felt cold and kind of lifeless.
  • 03:27 Like they're praying to God, but it felt empty to her.
  • 03:29 She said, "I used to always talk to God."

  • 03:34 But she married my dad.
  • 03:35 She didn't care that he was Christian, she just loved him.
  • 03:37 But this rabbi comes to town.
  • 03:40 After all these Christian men saying, "Hey, my mother's name's
  • 03:42 Hannah so they caused to call her Channah because they
  • 03:43 couldn't pronounce her name.
  • 03:45 You know, "Channah, take your pick, either you're a Jew or
  • 03:47 you're a Christian."
  • 03:48 And she's like--it's confusing, 'cause, you know, did the
  • 03:50 Italians stop becoming Italian when they accepted the Lord?
  • 03:54 Because in her mind, she's Jewish by birth, by blood.
  • 03:57 But this rabbi came to town, Rabbi Martin Chernoff, and he
  • 04:00 shared the gospel from a way she'd never heard before, shared
  • 04:03 about this great rabbi, not named Jesus, named Yeshua that
  • 04:07 he had 12 Talmidim, not disciples, Talmidim.
  • 04:11 And they did a thing called Mikveh, Mikvah, and they
  • 04:13 celebrated Pesach.
  • 04:15 He used all this Jewish terms that--which is what they would
  • 04:18 have used 2,000 years ago.
  • 04:20 And mom, up until that point, she really--she was open to the
  • 04:27 idea, but she knew that Christianity was for the
  • 04:30 Gentiles, Judaism was the only thing for the Jews.
  • 04:33 Maybe Elvis along the way might have helped.
  • 04:36 She loved his gospel songs.

  • 04:54 greatest rabbi that ever lived as my Jewish Messiah."
  • 04:58 So, I grew up with that connection, that understanding,

  • 05:25 I'm so glad she did because as I became a father 13 years--I have
  • 05:30 a 13-year-old, I can't believe it.
  • 05:32 I started thinking, how I am gonna raise my kids?
  • 05:36 And I realized I want to raise my kids in the oldest form of
  • 05:39 Judaism, that's messianic Judaism 'cause we go back
  • 05:42 2,000 years.
  • 05:44 Every modern form of Judaism today goes back, it goes back,
  • 05:46 but it doesn't go back 2,000 years.
