Kirsten and David interview their son Ryan who lives and works in Jerusalem. Then Kirsten interviews Sarah Liberman about her life as an Israeli and discusses things with Dr. Seif in the studio.

00:44 David: Shalom, friends. I'm David Hart.
00:46 Welcome to "Zola Levitt Presents."
00:47 Kirsten Hart: And I'm Kirsten Hart.
00:48 We have a great program for you today.
00:52 Sarah Liberman, who is our Hebrew teacher
00:55 here on the program, I got to interview her.
00:58 David: You did.
00:59 Kirsten: Awhile ago, and I learned this about Sarah,
01:02 that she is what they call a Sabra,
01:04 which means she was born in Israel and lived
01:07 in the United States for awhile.
01:09 And her Hebrew is amazing, but her English is spot on too.
01:13 I didn't even know that she could be fluent in both.
01:16 I mean, she's just amazing.
01:17 David: She is.
01:19 We sat down with our son, Ryan Hart,
01:20 who lives in Jerusalem, and got his perspective
01:22 on what it's like living in Israel.
01:25 We also have Dr. Jeffrey Seif with us.
01:27 He'll be with us later on in the program.
01:29 Kirsten: Let's go to our son, Ryan, right now,
01:31 where we got to talk to him about life in Israel.
01:35 Here's Ryan.
01:38 David: It is a beautiful day here in Yerushalayim,
01:41 but it's even more of a beautiful day here today
01:44 because we are sitting here at lunch with our wonderful son
01:47 who lives here in Jerusalem, Ryan Hart.
01:50 Ryan Hart: Hey.
01:51 David: Yay, we've been counting the months again and
01:54 the weeks, and I think I've been bugging you
01:55 a little bit telling you--
01:57 Ryan: Maybe a little bit.
01:58 No, you haven't been bugging me at all.
02:00 I've been counting the days, and the months, the weeks,
02:02 the hours, the seconds as well.
02:04 David: And we're sitting at one of your favorite spots
02:07 where you come all the time.
02:08 This is called First Station.
02:10 Ryan: Yep, it's the first station.
02:11 It was the old train station, but now it's been converted
02:14 to a lot of shopping, a lot of restaurants.
02:18 It has a cool nightlife here.
02:19 There's all kinds of stuff to do and I love it.
02:23 David: Yeah, I know you brought us here right
02:24 when we got to Jerusalem the first time at night,
02:27 and we were surprised at how peaceful it was around here.
02:31 Gals were out jogging at night.
02:35 Kirsten: Kids are playing.
02:36 David: Kids were playing.
02:38 And we just had such a peace when we found out how peaceful
02:41 it is for you to live here.
02:43 Ryan: Yeah, you know, it's really surprising.
02:45 Now, don't be mad at me.
02:48 There have been some times where I'm hanging out with my friends
02:50 until maybe 12:30, even later at night.
02:53 David: Is that past curfew?
02:55 Ryan: Don't be mad, like I said.
02:59 No, but we'll just-- I'll decide to walk home,
03:01 and it can be really late at night,
03:03 but it doesn't even matter.
03:05 I always feel safe walking home no matter what.
03:07 David: So, you got a text awhile back when you were living
03:11 in the USA and this text said, "Hey Ryan,
03:17 how would you like to live in Israel?"
03:21 I don't think that was by chance.
03:23 I think--tell us what your experience was,
03:25 if you felt God calling you here.
03:27 How did that come about?
03:30 Ryan: So, when I got that text asking if I would wanna
03:32 come here, and live here, and work for two years,
03:35 I thought, "Why me?"
03:38 But it really has been God working through everything.
03:42 Like, I see that in just the opportunities
03:45 that I've been given.
03:47 I've gotten to travel all around Israel filming amazing projects
03:51 that ICEJ helps out with.
03:53 ICEJ is the organization that I'm with,
03:56 the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem,
03:59 and I've just been able to make so many connections
04:01 with people here in the land and even outside of it,
04:05 just people who come here for tours,
04:08 they're here for a day, a week, a month, a year,
04:12 even more.
04:13 I get to meet them at the young adults group that I go to
04:16 with King of Kings.
04:17 David: Yeah, tell us about your church.
04:19 Ryan: Yeah, I go to King of Kings.
04:21 It's a church in Jerusalem.
04:24 I volunteer with the production team there.
04:27 And so, sometimes I'm running the words,
04:29 sometimes I'm running camera, sometimes I'm directly the
04:32 cameras for what to do for the live broadcast that they do.
04:35 And so that, along with the young adults group that I
04:39 attend, have just been a really solid way for me to connect with
04:43 people here in the land and just make lifelong friends.
04:47 David: Yeah, that's amazing.
04:48 Kirsten: No, we have food in front of us.
04:50 I know we're talking about your life,
04:51 but sometimes the food is more important than you.
04:55 I'm just kidding.
04:56 Okay, so we have--and we say hummus, but you say--
04:59 Ryan: Kumus.
05:00 Kirsten: Kumus, and pita.
05:02 Ryan: Pita, and there's tahini and it looks like
05:05 some eggplant, some lentils, olive oil,
05:08 and some other greens on top of that.
05:10 It looks beautiful.
05:12 Kirsten: Take your bite, 'cause I'm digging in.
05:14 Ryan: Let's dig in a little bit.
05:18 David: Mmmm, oh, we don't have that in the States.
05:22 Kirsten: Mmmm, oh, that is so smooth, isn't it?
05:27 David: It's really amazing.
05:28 Kirsten: That is so good.
05:31 Okay, so when you come to this restaurant,
05:33 what do you usually order.
05:35 Ryan: When I come here, the fish and chips
05:38 are actually quite good.
05:40 I'm a big fan of them.
05:41 And, but there's-- really anything here.
05:45 All the restaurants here at the First Station here are great,
05:47 and you have a huge variety.
05:48 There's Asian restaurants, there's traditional
05:53 Israeli food, there's burgers, there's baked potatoes.
05:57 Kirsten: But the burgers don't have cheese on it, right?
05:59 Ryan: The burgers don't have cheese.
06:00 That's where they get you.
06:02 David: I wanna go back real quick to, like,
06:06 what you're doing here in Israel.
06:08 I've gotta tell you, I am such a proud dad that you--
06:12 as we grew up, as you and your brother were young,
06:16 we'd sing together as a family, and I just had no idea
06:20 as a kid that you would someday be leading worship.
06:24 And we've had the wonderful opportunity to see you
06:27 lead worship at ICEJ.
06:30 And tonight I believe you'll be helping at King of Kings.
06:34 Ryan: That's right.
06:36 David: So, did you ever think that you'd be leading worship
06:39 in Jerusalem.
06:41 Ryan: Leading worship in Jerusalem.
06:44 Really, leading worship in general.
06:46 Besides singing, I never really thought I would do much more.
06:51 But thanks to you guys getting me my favorite birthday present
06:54 ever, my first guitar, I've really been able
06:58 to grow in that.
07:00 And it's so much fun to see that,
07:02 where they just threw me in at ICEJ, asking,
07:06 "Hey, would you mind leading worship?"
07:08 "Uh, sure," and it was my first time playing in front of people.
07:12 But since that time, I've just been able to grow in that and
07:16 it's really been a way that I'm able to connect with God,
07:18 I feel.
07:20 Just really looking at the words,
07:23 just feeling the chords as I'm playing,
07:25 it's something that I've been able to grow in and
07:28 it's something that really is connected to who I am now.
07:32 Kirsten: Well, I was gonna say something.
07:33 I know the answer, but has your spiritual life grown
07:38 since you moved to God's holy land?
07:40 Ryan: No.
07:41 [all laughing]
07:43 Ryan: Of course it has. Of course it has.
07:44 Really, nobody comes to Jerusalem unless God calls them,
07:49 and so in my time here there have been times of struggles
07:52 where it's really--I question why have I been called here.
07:57 But then God answers that with his perfect timing of just
08:02 showing me, whether it's hanging out with friends and someone,
08:05 like, just says something really encouraging to me,
08:07 or if it's during a shoot where I'm just able to share what
08:11 someone is saying, and it just really impacts me.
08:16 And so, my prayer life with just walking the streets and praying
08:21 for the peace of this city, just praying for you guys.
08:24 I pray for you guys a lot.
08:26 David: Aww, we do too, every day, for you.
08:28 Ryan: I'm so excited for where you guys are in life.
08:30 It's super exciting to see this.
08:32 But just praying for you guys, for Tyler and Kerry,
08:38 for just friends back home.
08:41 It's just--I really feel God moving here,
08:45 and it's fun to feel that and let it elevate me.
08:49 David: I had one of those ah-ha moments yesterday.
08:52 We've been here now to Israel three times,
08:55 and every place that we go, I just wanna stand there
08:58 and soak it in.
09:00 We're in Shiloh. We're at the Western Wall.
09:04 We're at different places and I just wanted to absorb it.
09:07 And yesterday, as we were filming,
09:10 I'd watch people just walk by these places like
09:12 it was just natural to them.
09:14 Ryan: Yeah.
09:16 David: And all of a sudden I started to feel that, like,
09:18 "Oh yeah, we're here and there."
09:20 It's because we feel like we're home when we're here.
09:22 Ryan: Yeah.
09:23 David: And I know that that's how you feel.
09:25 Is it still--does it still just--is it unreal that you're
09:28 living in God's land?
09:32 Ryan: I still wake up every morning in awe
09:35 that I'm living here.
09:36 David: But it feels natural.
09:38 Ryan: It's a weird mix of natural and just almost
09:42 a sense of reverence.
09:44 Like, wow, why me?
09:45 Why am I the one who's able to be here?
09:48 And so, like, yeah, friends and I,
09:51 we'll just, "Hey, you wanna walk to the Western Wall,
09:54 to the kotel?"
09:55 "Yeah, sure."
09:56 "Hey, you guys wanna go to a prayer house?"
09:58 "Yeah, sure."
09:59 And we're walking in the old city.
10:01 We're walking where Jesus walked.
10:04 And then we'll just stop and get falafel somewhere.
10:07 David: Right.
10:08 Ryan: It's this strange-- it almost snaps you back
10:10 to reality, like, wow, this is where I live.
10:13 David: Right.
10:15 Ryan: But there's so much history here.
10:16 There's so much to this city, to this land,
10:19 that it's absolutely incredible.
10:21 David: That's great.
10:22 Kirsten: God called--I know you were about to say something,
10:23 but it's amazing.
10:25 God called you and then he opened up the door for us
10:28 for Zola Levitt.
10:29 Ryan: It's amazing.
10:31 Kirsten: So, we never dreamed that God would use
10:33 the Hart family in Israel, but we're just vessels and tools,
10:36 and we're just so thrilled that God is using you.
10:40 I mean, when you're a parent one day and your kids
10:43 are being used by God, you'll see.
10:45 You'll get it.
10:46 Just like, God is using our son in the Holy Land,
10:49 and you're doing so much for the people here.
10:51 Ryan: It's pretty neat. It's pretty neat.
10:53 David: And finally, we're having lunch with you in Jerusalem.
10:56 Ryan: Yeah.
10:58 David: I think our lunch is about here,
10:59 and after we eat, we're gonna sing a song.
11:01 Ryan: Let's do that.
11:02 David: Great.

12:36 Kirsten: We've had a lot of interviews on this program,
12:38 and I've got to admit that was my favorite of all.
12:41 David: I would agree.
12:42 Kirsten: He's an adorable person to interview.
12:44 David: Yeah, we're excited too that he just called us and
12:46 said that he signed up for a third year to volunteer at the
12:49 Christian Embassy.
12:50 Kirsten: He's a busy boy.
12:52 David: He loves it there.
12:53 Kirsten: He loves Jerusalem.

14:27 with Sarah one-on-one and discuss parts of her life
14:31 and her faith in Yeshua.
14:33 Here's that interview in Jerusalem.
14:38 Kirsten: Sarah, we are so excited that you are
14:39 our new Hebrew teacher on, "Zola Levitt Presents."
14:43 Now, you're Israeli.
14:45 Sarah Liberman: Yes, I was born here in the land,
14:48 actually quite far north, north of the Sea of Galilee,
14:51 in a little town called Safed.
14:54 Kirsten: And have you lived there your whole life?
14:56 Sarah: No, so, when I was a little girl,
14:58 we lived in the north of the country.
14:59 And then we moved down here to Jerusalem and I lived here.
15:02 And then now, we live on the coast by the city of Caesarea.
15:06 So, I've kind of moved around.
15:09 Kirsten: I still haven't been in the Mediterranean.
15:11 I need to swim in the Mediterranean.
15:13 We need to come to your house.
15:15 Sarah: It's nice and warm.
15:16 Kirsten: I know, I heard.
15:17 So, have you lived in Israel your whole life?
15:19 Sara: I've lived here most of my life.
15:20 I actually married an American and we lived there for awhile,
15:24 but we live here now with our children in the land.
15:27 Kirsten: And what are you doing here?
15:28 Sarah: I am a worship leader and a recording artist,
15:31 and so I spend my time just in worship,
15:35 leading in different conferences and different things
15:38 that happen here, and also I travel abroad as well.
15:41 Kirsten: Now, I'm a mom. You're a mom also.
15:43 Tell us real quick about your kids.
15:45 Sarah: We have three amazing kids.
15:47 We have twins, a boy and a girl, and they're ten.
15:50 And then we have another boy, and he's eight.
15:53 Kirsten: Tell us what is happening--I know in the
15:55 Galilee, there are a lot of Messianics coming together.
15:59 Can you tell us what you see happening in the land?
16:02 Sarah: I think that one of the main things that are
16:04 happening today in Israel is we're seeing an emergence
16:07 of worship and times of prayer all across the land,
16:11 and this is unprecedented.
16:12 I grew up here.
16:14 I know what the body was like.
16:15 We were small, we were few in numbers,
16:17 and we weren't as bold, I think, in our expression.
16:21 But today, I see, just even the generation of our children
16:25 growing up with a confidence in their identity and who they are.
16:30 As our youth have gone into the army,
16:33 they have become exemplary soldiers and have been known
16:36 as Messianics, and it has really lifted kind of the perception
16:40 and the knowledge in the Israeli society
16:43 of the Messianic movement.
16:45 Kirsten: So, do you feel that the Messianics here,
16:48 the believers in Yeshua in Israel,
16:50 are being more accepted by the traditional Jewish culture?
16:55 Sarah: I think that we are living in a time
16:58 like we have never been living before in this country.
17:01 I see an openness in the larger Israeli society
17:04 that we haven't had before.
17:06 In the north where we live, people are coming to faith.
17:10 People are being healed on the streets.
17:12 It's incredible.
17:13 I also think that at the same time,
17:15 you have certain portions of society that are becoming
17:19 even more extreme, and so, that sense of persecution
17:23 is absolutely still there.
17:25 And there are certain pockets and areas of the land
17:27 that are definitely experiencing that kind of pressure.
17:30 But praise God that amidst that pressure and that persecution,
17:35 God and life is bursting forth.
17:38 Kirsten: That's one of my favorite words here
17:40 is the "chai."
17:42 It's great life. It's amazing life.
17:44 Just real quick before we end, for the people watching
17:48 in America, what do you want from us.
17:51 As a believer in Israel, what do you want of the church?
17:55 Sarah: Probably the most significant thing
17:57 that we need every day is prayer.
18:00 It's the currency of heaven, right?
18:03 Pray for us as a body. Pray for the people of Israel.
18:06 Pray for just the society, the culture,
18:09 that we be those people again that call
18:12 on the name of the Lord.
18:14 And I think that those who choose to partner
18:17 with the believers in the land, those who are doing the work,
18:20 I've found that local people are open more to local people
18:24 and they want to know workaday, everyday people.
18:28 One of the first things that people ask me
18:32 when I meet them or I'm talking to them about faith is,
18:34 "What do you do?"
18:35 You know, they wanna know that people are working regular jobs,
18:38 and part of society.
18:39 And you know, we live here, we pay taxes,
18:41 we celebrate the holidays, we send our kids to school.
18:45 We're living our regular, normal life here,
18:47 just being a light as we go through our day.
18:50 Kirsten: Well, we will continue to pray for you,
18:52 and your family, and your husband, and your kids.
18:55 And as God continues to open up the doors to use the gifting
18:59 and the giftings that he put inside of you,
19:01 the worship that's coming out of the Galilee,
19:04 'cause it's exciting what's happening.

20:31 As you have seen in this program that our son lives in Israel
20:35 and absolutely loves it.
20:37 We don't know if he's ever gonna come home actually.
20:40 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: You know, I bet you a lot of people
20:41 would think, "Oh, you'd let your son there?
20:43 Isn't he getting blown up?
20:45 I mean, it's such a dangerous place."
20:46 David: We have had that question asked to us.
20:48 Jeffrey: Yes, how do you respond to that?
20:50 Kirsten: Oh my gosh, he's safer there,
20:52 safer in Israel where he lives in Jerusalem,
20:55 then I don't even wanna say anywhere in the United States,
20:59 but he is so safe.
21:00 People don't realize what life is like there.
21:03 Jeffrey: No, they think it's a war zone.
21:05 But it's great to see-- it is a war zone.
21:07 It's a spiritual war zone.
21:08 But we see these testimonials in the program and in the life
21:13 of your son and other sons and daughters,
21:16 people just blowing and going, serving the Lord.
21:20 They've moved to Israel. The Lord opens up doors.
21:23 And there's a new testimony coming out of Jewish believers.
21:26 They're singing, they're speaking, it's wonderful.
21:29 Kirsten: And we have had the question, "Do you have
21:33 any anxious feelings about him living there?"
21:36 And as we walked the streets-- he lives in the German colony,
21:40 if some of you have been to Jerusalem,
21:42 southern part of the city.
21:44 And we walked the streets with him,
21:46 and there are women out jogging at night.
21:48 Kids are out on the street-- not on the street,
21:51 but in the sidewalks, playing.
21:53 There is such a different peace.
21:54 That shalom, that peace, is thick there.
21:57 It really is.
21:59 Jeffrey: Yes, you know, I mean, I have kids in their 20s
22:01 and I don't worry where they live.
22:04 I'm concerned about how they live.
22:06 I think if we walk with the Lord, it's all good.
22:12 And walking with the Lord in the Lord's land, you know,
22:15 150 years ago, it didn't exist.
22:17 A hundred years ago, what of it, you know?
22:20 Seventy years ago, I mean, there's an anniversary now.
22:22 They started coming back before 70 years ago.
22:25 It's just--it's a fascinating story of God at work in bringing
22:30 that world to life since Bible days we haven't seen,
22:34 and we're walking in those days again.
22:37 David: And you've been 50 plus times.
22:39 You're going again soon.
22:40 Have you ever thought about just moving there?
22:42 Jeffrey: You know, I've thought about it,
22:43 but the Lord's given me a ministry here
22:45 in various capacities.
22:47 People are telling me, "Oh, you need to go there,"
22:49 but you gotta go with the Lord speaks to you.
22:51 And I wanna tell you something if I can speak to the group,
22:54 not to distance myself from you, but the Lord's doing new things
22:59 in the world.
23:01 Israel's reemergence as a state among men and women is
23:05 an example of providence at work on planet Earth,
23:08 and we can look and see how God is working there.
23:11 And pastors like to give voice to not just what's happening
23:14 in the house of Israel.
23:15 Sometimes that's ignored, but they wanna give voice to
23:18 what's happening in the church house and I'm pleased to see it.
23:22 But you know, we can see testimonies as well as
23:25 individuals whose lives have turned around
23:28 and they're on fire for the Lord.
23:29 That's good.
23:31 Let me just say that we need to see God at work
23:34 in our own house, in our own world.
23:36 I wanna ask you to what extent you see God moving
23:41 in rebuilding your own life and circumstances.
23:44 Israel is a rebuild story. Jesus was a carpenter.
23:48 He's all about building and rebuilding.
23:50 And listen, I want you to be sensitive to the Lord
23:53 in your life.
23:54 You know, it says in the Gospel of John that the Comforter
23:56 comes, the Holy Spirit, to guide us into all the truth.
24:01 That doesn't just mean into good doctrine,
24:03 it means into good living, and new circumstances,
24:06 and new people.
24:07 There are divine appointments for you.
24:11 There's testimonies of God moving amongst the young
24:13 in Israel today, not just the young there but the young here,
24:17 but not just the young.
24:18 I think there's a lot of attention for the young,
24:21 and rightly so, but God ain't finished with me yet
24:24 and I'm 62 as I speak.
24:26 Kirsten: Well, you don't look it.
24:27 Jeffrey: Well, you're kind to say it.
24:29 Kirsten: Moses was 80 when he stepped into
24:30 the greatest days of his life.
24:32 God is still, and always still, call and beckon.
24:35 Jeffrey: Right, we can think that the best days are behind us
24:39 now, and then, "Oh, come sweet Jesus and take me out of here."
24:43 Maybe God's not finished yet.
24:45 Maybe there needs to be some risk, some faith,
24:49 some seed-sowing, some movement, being sensitive
24:55 to what the Lord might be saying.
24:57 Don't just languish in your living room.
25:01 People ask me.
25:02 They see, "Israel is so dangerous.
25:03 Isn't it dangerous?"
25:05 You know what I think the most dangerous place in the world is?
25:08 Your living room, because people just sit there,
25:12 and blah about, give up on life, and just watch TV,
25:15 you know, 10 hours a day.
25:17 And here you are watching TV.
25:19 Oops, I shouldn't have said that.
25:20 But the point is, people stop living a life,
25:24 and I think that God is in the business of being in business.
25:28 And that's just not for folk on TV and folk in Israel,
25:32 it's for those in living rooms that are watching this program
25:35 right now.
25:36 David: Do we focus enough on the New Jerusalem?
25:39 Jeffrey: I don't think so.
25:41 I don't think there's enough focus on religious truth,
25:43 period.
25:44 There's 168 hours in a week.
25:46 Preacher gives a message, even in the message for 30 minutes,
25:49 he or she might reference the Bible.
25:52 They don't necessarily really drill down into it.
25:54 I think focus is a real problem in the world.
25:58 Kirsten: My word that just came to life is "Chai."
26:02 And the Jewish people, that's why I think so many people
26:06 are drawn, because there's such great life within Judaism.
26:11 And Christ is life, so you combine the two and that life
26:15 and what God wants to do through us still is strong and powerful,
26:20 as God woos his people to his people,
26:24 you and to the country, he's also wooing and calling us
26:28 into his heart to give life more abundant than
26:31 we could ever imagine.
26:33 Jeffrey: And do you know what the Jewish toast is?
26:34 Kirsten: L'chaim. Jeffrey: L'chaim.
26:36 Kirsten: To life.
26:38 Jeffrey: That's toast, not as in,
26:39 do you want butter on it, but as in, to life.
26:42 Kirsten: That's, l'chaim. Love it.
26:43 Jeffrey: Yes, that's-- it's beautiful.
