Caption transcript for “The Seven Feasts”

  • 00:10 ♪♪♪ David Hart: We are so glad you've joined us today.
  • 00:12 We have some hot topics to bring you today and also I think we
  • 00:16 may even have some special guests coming, yes?
  • 00:17 Kirsten Hart: In this program?
  • 00:19 Caleb Colson: Oh, it's gonna be interesting.
  • 00:20 This is, like, the classic Jewish staple program
  • 00:23 on the seven feasts of the Lord.
  • 00:24 David: Love it.
  • 00:26 Joshua Colson: See, if you watch our program online you get
  • 00:28 to see these very long episodes with very detailed explanations
  • 00:31 but, obviously, television we're shortened to smaller segments,
  • 00:34 so we're going back over a very popular classic teaching so that
  • 00:38 y'all guys can be introduced to some of the things that people
  • 00:41 have already seen online.
  • 00:43 Caleb: Yeah, Pesach, Passover, and the Spring Feasts
  • 00:45 of Israel, the feasts that Yeshua fulfilled, and you're
  • 00:49 going to enjoy this because there are some
  • 00:51 extra family members involved.
  • 00:53 This was shot during the height of COVID, during the lockdown,
  • 00:56 so we had a nice family Passover Special just for you.
  • 01:00 Josh: Hey, everybody, I'm Joshua.
  • 01:02 Caleb: And I'm Caleb. Josh: We're brothers.
  • 01:03 Caleb: That's true.
  • 01:05 Josh: Now, this is a little awkward for me because,
  • 01:07 generally, the producers of our show are much older.
  • 01:10 It looks as though I'm staring into one of those, like, those
  • 01:12 apps where it shows you as a baby because a couple
  • 01:15 of these kids look like me.
  • 01:17 Caleb: There's a lot of little kids here, and we have
  • 01:19 bigger kids running our camera.
  • 01:21 This is our family. Josh: Hi, big kids.
  • 01:23 Caleb: We decided to have the family Passover Special.
  • 01:26 Okay, so in the book of Exodus, God sends Moses to the Pharaoh
  • 01:31 because the children of Israel were in bondage.
  • 01:34 They were slaves for 400 years so God says,
  • 01:35 "Moses, go to the Pharaoh--"
  • 01:37 Josh: "Let my people go."
  • 01:40 Caleb: --and say, "Let my people go."
  • 01:42 Josh: That's what he said to him.
  • 01:43 Caleb: He did, he said that. But the Pharaoh said to Moses--
  • 01:45 Josh: "Let my people stay." Caleb: Didn't happen that way.
  • 01:49 Josh: It was kind of like that, though.
  • 01:51 Caleb: But he said, "No, you're not going anywhere."
  • 01:53 So, God was sending plagues, okay?
  • 01:55 He sent ten plagues on Egypt.
  • 01:58 Does anybody know any of the plagues that God sent on Egypt?
  • 02:02 Zi?
  • 02:06 Josh: Yes, the plague of silence.
  • 02:07 No, not the plague. Caleb: Mi?
  • 02:09 Mi: Frogs? Caleb: Frogs, yeah.
  • 02:10 Josh: Yeah, good one. Caleb: In?
  • 02:12 In: He also sent-- Zi: Flies.
  • 02:15 Caleb: Flies, very good.
  • 02:18 boy: The death angel. Caleb: Death angel.
  • 02:21 Okay, that's what I was looking for, the death angel.
  • 02:24 So the last plague was the death angel, so that's why God said,
  • 02:26 "You gotta kill this lamb."
  • 02:28 A baby lamb, the sweet little baby lamb.
  • 02:30 Josh: Cute cuddly ones, the ones that y'all guys see in books.
  • 02:33 Caleb: I know, he's so soft and fuzzy.
  • 02:34 Josh: But it was for a good purpose, don't worry.
  • 02:36 Caleb: "And you're gonna take that blood and you're gonna
  • 02:38 apply it to the door posts of your home so that when the death
  • 02:41 angel came to kill the firstborn of any animal or human in all of
  • 02:44 Egypt, he wouldn't kill the Israelites."
  • 02:47 They would be protected, weren't they, Josh?
  • 02:49 Josh: They would be so protected.
  • 02:51 Caleb: And so, with that, started the Feast of Passover,
  • 02:54 and so God said, "Make unleavened bread."
  • 02:56 You see this?
  • 02:58 This is unleavened bread, bread with no leaven, no yeast.
  • 03:00 So it was really hard, like a cracker.
  • 03:02 Josh: Is it delicious?
  • 03:03 Caleb: He said, "Eat bitter herbs to remind
  • 03:05 you of your bitterness of slavery."
  • 03:07 You wanna eat this? No?
  • 03:08 Oh, I know he would want-- Josh: It's no good, don't do it.
  • 03:11 Caleb: We don't have any drink, you know, if it's yucky,
  • 03:13 then you're gonna be spitting out.
  • 03:14 "And roast the lamb.
  • 03:16 You're gonna eat the lamb and they were to have that meal."
  • 03:19 You were supposed to keep your shoes on your feet and you're
  • 03:21 gonna have your belts on, your clothes on, because the very
  • 03:23 next morning you were ready to run out of Egypt 'cause
  • 03:25 he's gonna let those people go.
  • 03:27 Well, the death angel came.
  • 03:28 Josh: He was gonna "Let my people go."
  • 03:31 Caleb: He let the people go.
  • 03:32 Pharaoh finally let the people go.
  • 03:34 And that's why we celebrate the Passover today.
  • 03:36 So why is this feast so important,
  • 03:37 the Feast of Passover?
  • 03:39 What was it to tell us about the future?
  • 03:41 Does anybody know why this feast is important to us today?
  • 03:43 Josh: Anybody at all? Anybody?
  • 03:47 Because we were all born perfect and we were beautiful
  • 03:51 and our mommies and daddies loved us and we could
  • 03:52 go straight to heaven, right?
  • 03:54 Ehh, that is the wrong answer.
  • 03:57 As a matter of fact, we were all born sinners.
  • 03:59 Mi: That's why-- Josh: That's right.
  • 04:02 And we've all done bad things. Caleb: That's right.
  • 04:04 Josh: And the thing is, is that we are in bondage
  • 04:07 to that because we're sinners, just like the Israelites
  • 04:09 were in bondage in Egypt.
  • 04:11 Caleb: And so these feasts were to be foreshadowings, types
  • 04:14 to let you to know when the Messiah came, he was the one.
  • 04:19 So we have three feasts that we're gonna show you that Jesus
  • 04:22 was coming: the Feast of Passover, in which he died, on
  • 04:25 the piece--Feast of Passover.
  • 04:27 The Feast of Unleavened Bread.
  • 04:29 He was buried on the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
  • 04:31 And the Feast of First Fruits in which he was resurrected
  • 04:34 on Feast of First Fruits.
  • 04:36 Some people call it Easter.
  • 04:37 We call it the Feast of First Fruits, and so those were very
  • 04:40 important types and shadows of things to come.
  • 04:42 In fact, Jesus took the position of
  • 04:45 "the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world."
  • 04:49 John the Baptist said that.
  • 04:51 He died for us and his blood was poured out to forgive us of our
  • 04:54 sins, on the Feast of First Fruits.
  • 04:58 Jesus was resurrected, he came out of the tomb, and Mary
  • 05:02 Magdalene is the first person to see him and she wants to hug on
  • 05:05 to Jesus and hold on tight, but he says, "No, no, no, no, no."
  • 05:06 Josh: He said, "Whoa." Caleb: "No, no, no."
  • 05:08 Josh: "Hold on." Caleb: Yeah.
  • 05:09 Josh: And in fact, in John 20:17,
  • 05:11 it's exactly what he said.
  • 05:12 Just in case you all think my paraphrasing
  • 05:14 is a little inaccurate.
  • 05:16 "Jesus said, 'Do not hold on to me,
  • 05:17 for I have not yet ascended to the Father.
  • 05:20 Go instead to my brothers and tell them,
  • 05:22 'I am ascending to my Father
  • 05:24 and your Father, to my God and your God.'"
  • 05:27 Caleb: So why was this important?
  • 05:29 Jesus immediately after that he went up to heaven, okay?
  • 05:32 He went up to heaven and he had to finish the sacrifice.
  • 05:35 Let's say he was the Passover lamb.
  • 05:37 He was killed, but he still had to apply his own blood
  • 05:40 to cover our sins.
  • 05:42 He stepped into the role of the high priest.
  • 05:45 You know there's a temple in heaven and he went into that
  • 05:47 temple, into the holy place where there's a Mercy Seat,
  • 05:50 an ark of the covenant.
  • 05:52 He took his own blood and he applied it to
  • 05:54 that to cover our sins forever.
  • 05:56 So here we have a temple. Josh: Oh my gosh.
  • 05:59 Caleb: A model of King Solomon's temple.
  • 06:01 Look at that.
  • 06:02 Josh: Why would God make a temple so small?
  • 06:04 This would have to be a temple for ants to be able to go in
  • 06:06 there and receive freedom.
  • 06:08 Caleb: It's a model, made out of popsicle sticks by E
  • 06:10 in the second grade.
  • 06:12 Most kids know--non-Jewish kids may make the Eiffel Tower out of
  • 06:15 popsicle sticks, castles, ours make King Solomon's temple.
  • 06:18 Josh: This is very normal Jewish,
  • 06:19 made right here in school.
  • 06:20 Caleb: So if you guys look inside this temple, this is the
  • 06:22 Holy of Holies and in there is the ark of the covenant--
  • 06:24 Josh: Can they look or are they gonna get zapped?
  • 06:25 Caleb: --the Mercy Seat.
  • 06:27 No, they're not gonna get zapped.
  • 06:28 Y'all are gonna be okay.
  • 06:29 Josh: Oh, model zapped, you get, like, static electricity
  • 06:31 shocked if it's just a model versus--
  • 06:33 Caleb: And the important thing to know, guys, is the
  • 06:35 reason God gave specific dimensions for how to make the
  • 06:38 temple on earth is because the temple in heaven
  • 06:40 looked the exact same way.
  • 06:42 And we have proof that Jesus completed the sacrifice the way
  • 06:46 we just explained, in the book of Hebrews, don't we, Josh?
  • 06:48 Josh: We do, as a matter of fact,
  • 06:50 Hebrews 9:11 through 12 says: "But when Christ
  • 06:54 came as high priest of the good things that are now
  • 06:56 already there, he went through the greater and more perfect
  • 06:59 tabernacle that is not made with human hands, that is to say,
  • 07:02 that is not a part of the creation.
  • 07:04 He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but
  • 07:08 he entered the Most Holy Place once and for all by his own
  • 07:11 blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption."
  • 07:13 Caleb: So this Passover, guys, remember the things of
  • 07:16 old, the sacrifice of old, how the death angel passed over
  • 07:19 because of the blood of the lamb on the doorposts of the house.
  • 07:22 Now we have the blood of the Lamb
  • 07:24 on the doorposts of our hearts.
  • 07:25 Josh: We do.
  • 07:26 Caleb: And we don't have to fear the death angel.
  • 07:28 We don't have to fear coronavirus.
  • 07:29 We don't have to fear anything that's going on in the world
  • 07:31 'cause whether we're in our home or whether we're out in the
  • 07:33 world, we are safe and protected by the blood of Jesus.
  • 07:37 David: I had such a great memory today of when we used to
  • 07:40 use our kids on set for things--
  • 07:41 Caleb: As props.
  • 07:42 David: Yes, really great having your kids
  • 07:45 with us in this segment.
  • 07:47 I love the kid's perspective, teaching to them.
  • 07:51 Caleb: Yeah, it changes everything, but the gospel was
  • 07:53 meant to be understood by children.
  • 07:56 It's simple and in Pesach, Passover, as Zola used to say,
  • 08:01 is the "crown jewel of the feasts of Israel."
  • 08:04 This was the one that Yeshua came and he died and was buried
  • 08:08 and rose again on First Fruits.
  • 08:10 And obviously, in Christian churches, they celebrate
  • 08:13 differently with Easter, you know?
  • 08:15 It's not the Jewish interpretation.
  • 08:17 Josh: We know that people get bent out of shape because it was
  • 08:19 Ishtar's, you know, fertility festival and this and that, but
  • 08:23 the focus being on Yeshua being raised is what we care about.
  • 08:27 But that's why it's so important to go over this teaching here.
  • 08:29 Kirsten: It is, and it's important to go over the
  • 08:31 teaching but I love seeing both of you.
  • 08:34 We know you as brothers.
  • 08:36 I love seeing you as--ah, look it, they're touching--
  • 08:38 as fathers.
  • 08:40 And that was so very much Old Testament, but the whole
  • 08:44 testament, of share it, tell the young generation,
  • 08:48 tell the children.
  • 08:50 Josh: Think about before you had written word, that's how the
  • 08:52 Word was handed down.
  • 08:54 It was verbal, so the families, for generations, would sit and
  • 08:56 they would teach their children and they children
  • 08:58 would teach their children.
  • 08:59 And it's always an amazing time, as a father, as a husband,
  • 09:02 to be able to sit with my kids and be, like,
  • 09:04 "This is the stuff that really matters.
  • 09:05 We all have schedules, we all this, but what Yeshua did is
  • 09:08 what's going to mean everything for your life."
  • 09:12 Kirsten: That's beautiful. I love it.
  • 09:13 I love seeing you guys as dad.
  • 09:15 Caleb: Well, thank you.
  • 09:16 And the next feast, Shavuot, most Christians
  • 09:19 know it as Pentecost.
  • 09:20 The Feast of Weeks.
  • 09:22 This has to do with the Holy Spirit, the Ruach HaKodesh.
  • 09:25 I hope you enjoy this perspective.
  • 09:28 Josh: Hey, everybody, I'm Joshua.
  • 09:30 Caleb: And I'm Caleb.
  • 09:31 Josh: And we're brothers. And this is Fidgey.
  • 09:33 Caleb: That's cool, Josh.
  • 09:34 You know, today we wanna talk to you about Shavuot, the Feast of
  • 09:38 Pentecost, and the holy [bleeping]
  • 09:41 Josh: That was weird.
  • 09:43 Caleb: Did you just hear that bleeping sound when we said Holy
  • 09:44 [bleeping]?
  • 09:46 Josh: That's not a bad word.
  • 09:48 Who's--usually, I say all the bad words and we know that they
  • 09:50 bleep those out, for sure.
  • 09:52 Caleb: Guys, the Holy Spirit is not a swear word.
  • 09:56 Josh: Didn't--I heard the Holy Spirit died with the apostles.
  • 09:59 Caleb: No, Josh. Josh: It's a different thing?
  • 10:01 Caleb: Yeah, okay, Shavuot, the Feast of Pentecost.
  • 10:04 We know about this.
  • 10:05 The fourth feast of Israel's an agricultural feast.
  • 10:08 This was fulfilled when the Holy Spirit was poured
  • 10:10 out on the earth.
  • 10:12 We read here in Exodus 32, though,
  • 10:13 The children of Israel sinned against God.
  • 10:15 They were worshiping a golden calf, and the punishment
  • 10:17 was that 3000 men were killed by Levites.
  • 10:21 Then, Acts 2, 3000 men and women came to the knowledge of Yeshua
  • 10:24 on the Day of Pentecost.
  • 10:27 So this is awesome, Josh.
  • 10:28 But we don't just wanna talk about the Feast of Pentecost,
  • 10:31 but what came on that day, the important baptism by fire that
  • 10:34 was prophesied throughout history.
  • 10:36 Josh: John the Baptist, in Matthew 3:11: "I indeed baptize
  • 10:40 you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is
  • 10:44 mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry.
  • 10:48 He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire."
  • 10:52 Caleb: Oh, that's cool.
  • 10:53 See, Yeshua before he ascended into heaven, he's on the Mount
  • 10:56 of Olives giving his disciples the last directive to go into
  • 10:59 all the world and preach the gospel.
  • 11:01 He didn't wanna leave his disciples empty-handed.
  • 11:03 He wanted them to have the same power and authority
  • 11:05 that the Father gave him.
  • 11:07 So he said in Acts 1:4 through 5:
  • 11:10 "And being assembled together with them, He," Yeshua,
  • 11:13 "Commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem,
  • 11:15 but to wait for the Promise of the Father, 'Which,' he said,
  • 11:17 'You have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water,
  • 11:20 but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit
  • 11:23 many days from now.'"
  • 11:25 Josh: You're probably asking what does that mean?
  • 11:27 What goodies come with it?
  • 11:29 Caleb: The power, yeah. What is it, Josh?
  • 11:30 Josh: Well, Mark 16:17 answers that.
  • 11:32 It says: "And these signs will follow those who believe: In My
  • 11:34 name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new
  • 11:38 tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink
  • 11:40 anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay
  • 11:43 hands on the sick, and they will recover."
  • 11:46 Caleb: Okay, so the Day of Pentecost finally came.
  • 11:49 We read in Acts 2:1 through 4: "When the Day had finally come,
  • 11:53 they were all together with one accord in one place.
  • 11:55 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven,
  • 11:57 as of a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the whole house
  • 12:00 where they were sitting.
  • 12:01 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and
  • 12:04 one sat upon each of them.
  • 12:05 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to
  • 12:07 speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance."
  • 12:10 Now Peter explained, this was prophesied in Joel 2:28 that
  • 12:14 this baptism by fire, the Holy Spirit would fill them and this
  • 12:17 was kind of like a necessary part 2 for salvation.
  • 12:20 You've got the indwelling of the Holy Spirit but then you got his
  • 12:22 baptism of the Holy Spirit.
  • 12:24 Josh: I think it was really cool that Peter did it.
  • 12:26 I think Peter coming off of denying three times, just so
  • 12:29 happens to stand up and give the very first church service which
  • 12:33 did get 3000 people saved that day, what an amazing moment to
  • 12:37 show that it wasn't Peter, it was the Holy Spirit,
  • 12:39 there was something different.
  • 12:41 Like you said, a part two to salvation.
  • 12:43 Caleb: See, salvation is important.
  • 12:44 The people go out and they, you know, tell them about Yeshua.
  • 12:47 Your spirit is reborn and rejuvenated, but your body is
  • 12:51 still this flawed human flesh.
  • 12:53 It still has that curse attached to it.
  • 12:56 And so, this baptism of the Holy Spirit they talk about is a part
  • 12:59 of the fire, the incinerating fire of the Holy Spirit, burning
  • 13:03 away that chaff and those impurities so that you
  • 13:05 will not be inclined to sin and fall back into those same
  • 13:08 temptations of the flesh.
  • 13:10 Josh: You have to take steps because, like you said, just
  • 13:13 because you get saved today and have that great experience,
  • 13:16 doesn't mean that old patterns and other things of this flesh
  • 13:18 and the Holy Spirit being there to be that hall monitor for you,
  • 13:22 to be like, "Hey, yeah, don't say those words.
  • 13:26 They'll bleep 'em." "Yes, sir, yes, sir."
  • 13:28 Caleb: That's right, so you can see throughout
  • 13:29 Scripture, discovering this fire of the Holy Spirit
  • 13:32 was in Zechariah 13:9, Malachi 3:1 through 3,
  • 13:36 1 Corinthians 3:11 through 15, the consuming fire of God
  • 13:40 in Hebrews 12:29, Psalm 104:4:
  • 13:44 "Who makes His angels spirits, His ministers flames of fire."
  • 13:46 Like I said, this is to empower people--"
  • 13:50 Josh: How much does this cost?
  • 13:51 Is it very expensive?
  • 13:52 Caleb: It was a free gift, Josh, just like salvation.
  • 13:54 You received it by faith, you receive that baptism of fire
  • 13:57 by faith, by asking the Father.
  • 14:00 It was a free gift.
  • 14:01 Josh: I don't know if you've noticed this or not yet, but God
  • 14:03 has a very consistent pattern of which he gives things to you.
  • 14:07 It's by your faith.
  • 14:09 Caleb: That's true. Josh: It's really simple.
  • 14:11 Josh: He said, "Hey, you want it, believe, and it's yours."
  • 14:15 Josh: It's just like that. Caleb: That's right.
  • 14:17 Josh: In Acts 19:1 through 7, Bible says: "And it happened,
  • 14:20 while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through
  • 14:23 the upper regions, came to Ephesus.
  • 14:25 And finding some disciples he said to them, 'Did you receive
  • 14:27 the Holy Spirit when you believed?'
  • 14:28 So they said to him,
  • 14:30 'We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.'
  • 14:33 And he said to them, 'Into what then were you baptized?'
  • 14:37 So they said, 'Into John's baptism.'
  • 14:39 Well, then Paul said,
  • 14:40 'John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to
  • 14:43 the people that they should believe on Him who would come
  • 14:46 after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.'
  • 14:48 When they heard this, they were
  • 14:49 baptized immediately in the name of the Lord Jesus.
  • 14:52 And then Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on
  • 14:55 them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.
  • 14:57 Now the men were about twelve in all."
  • 14:59 Caleb: So that's interesting.
  • 15:01 This in the New Testament was the only sign that you were a
  • 15:04 believer, that you were a Christian.
  • 15:05 Paul said, "Have you received the Holy Spirit?"
  • 15:07 This was letting him know that they had received Yeshua
  • 15:09 properly and if they didn't receive the Holy Spirit, then

  • 15:21 And there's a diversity thereof that is meant for all believers
  • 15:25 of the church to function together in unity.
  • 15:28 Josh: That's pretty powerful. Caleb: That's right.

  • 17:32 Even Saul prophesied when the Spirit of the Lord came upon him

  • 19:32 The first four had been fulfilled in Messiah.
  • 19:36 We see the Feasts of Passover, Unleavened Bread,
  • 19:40 and First Fruits were fulfilled in the death, burial,

  • 20:04 Caleb: Rosh Hashana is known as the Feast of Trumpets

  • 20:08 And now, this day was a ceremonial blowing of the
  • 20:11 trumpet, of the shofar, from the temple and they offered

  • 20:16 And as Zola has explained, this feast is a mirror or a shadow of

  • 20:34 and with the trumpet of God.
  • 20:35 And the dead in Christ shall rise first.
  • 20:37 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with
  • 20:40 them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.
  • 20:42 And so shall we ever be with the Lord."
  • 20:44 Now, the Bible says we will not know the day or the hour that
  • 20:47 this is gonna happen, only the heavenly Father knows.
  • 20:50 But we are to know the season.
  • 20:52 It's the Fall season, the last harvest of the year, the

  • 21:04 Caleb: That's true, the next feast is Yom Kippur,
