Episode: “Jesus”
On His last night, Messiah said that He wanted to be remembered by a Passover meal. He is the door, the light of the world, and the ultimate Provider of deliverance. We pray that you have experienced deliverance and follow Him.
Series: “Divine Deliverance (2020)”
from Avraham to Yeshua
In this series, we examine how the Lord offered a message of deliverance through 12 significant Bible characters, beginning with faithful Abraham and culminating with Messiah Himself. Dr. Jeffrey Seif teaches on location in Israel and discusses the lesson’s application with David and Kirsten Hart in the studio. We enjoy enlightening dramatic re-enactments from past series, along with Zola’s music, completely re-orchestrated and sung by David and Kirsten.

  • 00:59 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: I am Jeffrey Seif, and I am really thankful.
  • 01:03 I don't know where I'd be were it not for the fact the Lord
  • 01:07 came into my life, and we would be remiss in looking at Bible
  • 01:12 characters about deliverance and not alighting upon Jesus.
  • 01:17 Yes?
  • 01:18 Kirsten: Yes, everyone else in those
  • 01:20 whole series pointed to him.
  • 01:22 He was the divine deliverer for the whole world.
  • 01:26 Jeffrey: Yes, not just in the world in general
  • 01:28 but into our world in particular, every one of us.
  • 01:32 David: That's right, right now, let's go to the story
  • 01:33 of the ultimate divine deliverer, Yeshua.
  • 01:40 announcer: "And Jesus went about all Galilee,

  • 03:09 Jeffrey: He who said, "Blessed are those who hunger

  • 03:17 I think that's very interesting.
  • 03:20 I have to wrestle with a question,
  • 03:22 how to finish up a teaching program of deliverance
  • 03:25 in the Bible as we've walked through from Avram to Yeshua.
  • 03:29 We've surveyed the older testament,
  • 03:32 and now we're landing on the new.
  • 03:35 Affords me the opportunity
  • 03:37 to talk about he who is the deliverer.
  • 03:41 I wondered the extent to which I should be doing all the talking.
  • 03:44 You should just push "rewind" and look at those videos,
  • 03:48 just the words of Yeshua speaking.
  • 03:52 Our friends sent money to help us make that.
  • 03:55 We built a village on the Sea of Galilee.
  • 03:57 We hired those actors and actresses.
  • 04:00 The dramatic vignettes with Jesus there in the Galilee
  • 04:04 on the mountain were all facilitated by your gifts
  • 04:08 and by Israeli actors and actresses.
  • 04:11 Thank you for that.
  • 04:13 The story that I wanna bring to you today comes right
  • 04:16 from the pages of the newer testament therein,
  • 04:21 and we can look at it from different places
  • 04:23 in the Matthean Gospel, the Gospel of Matthew.
  • 04:27 We're told that Yeshua sees the crowds,
  • 04:29 and he goes up on a mountain, subsequent to which
  • 04:33 he gives this great message.
  • 04:36 It's called the Sermon on the Mount.
  • 04:37 I never liked the term "sermon" so much.
  • 04:39 It sounds kind of boring.
  • 04:41 Really, there is stitched together here a variety
  • 04:45 of pericopes, pearls of wisdom,
  • 04:48 insights into what it means to be authentically religious,
  • 04:52 and beautiful it is.
  • 04:55 If you don't have time to read the whole Bible,
  • 04:57 can I encourage you just to take a look
  • 04:58 at Matthew chapter 5, 6, and 7?
  • 05:03 And with that, you should be able to figure out
  • 05:06 what it's all about.
  • 05:09 Not only is it my hope that you'll understand what it means
  • 05:12 to be Christian, it's my hope you'll understand
  • 05:14 who is the person of Christ, the one we call Christ;
  • 05:19 in Hebrew, "Maschiach,"
  • 05:20 the Messiah, the Anointed One, the Deliverer.
  • 05:25 Before he left, he took bread, and he broke it.
  • 05:29 He was a Hebrew.
  • 05:30 It was Passover time, and he said to the hungry,
  • 05:34 "Take, eat.
  • 05:35 This is my body."
  • 05:37 And if you look at this unleavened bread,
  • 05:39 it really is very equivalent to what
  • 05:40 it would've looked like back then.
  • 05:42 It's put on a grill on the quick.
  • 05:44 There's holes that are punched into it so that the heat rises
  • 05:47 from it, and because it's placed on a grill, it's striped.
  • 05:52 When Yeshua said, "This my body,"
  • 05:54 there's a picture here of the cross.
  • 05:57 Similarly, when he said, "Drink, this is my blood,"
  • 06:00 taken together, we know what he's referring to.
  • 06:03 Actually, when they had that supper, they didn't.
  • 06:09 Why not?
  • 06:10 Well, in the Jewish Passover time,
  • 06:13 there's a special meal called the Seder,
  • 06:15 and everyone eats matzo, this unleavened bread.
  • 06:18 Everyone drinks of various cups of wine,
  • 06:21 and they just figured Yeshua was being
  • 06:23 proverbial and speaking in parables.
  • 06:26 You know, he's been known to say things
  • 06:27 that not everybody understands.
  • 06:30 But, really, he was giving a picture of that
  • 06:33 which was to come, and it wasn't prophecy
  • 06:37 belonging to the distant future.
  • 06:39 It was prophecy belonging to when the sun rises high
  • 06:44 in the sky the very next day.
  • 06:50 It's called the Last Supper because there he had them
  • 06:53 gathered, and there he gave a final word to them.
  • 06:57 Actually, we're looking at the Sermon on the Mount
  • 06:59 where there's the basic instruction of what it means
  • 07:02 to walk with the Lord.
  • 07:04 If one looks at the Johannine Gospel,
  • 07:06 13, 14, 15, and 16, therein, it gets to the gist similarly
  • 07:12 of what it means to walk with the Lord.
  • 07:14 I'd encourage ya to take a look at the book.
  • 07:17 But now as we put a wrap on a series that deals
  • 07:22 with deliverance, I want to close by encouraging you
  • 07:27 to open up the heart.
  • 07:29 Take a fresh look at the book. Go through the journey again.
  • 07:33 Discover Jesus, and by virtue of the discovery of him,
  • 07:38 walk through the door into a brand-new life.
  • 07:44 announcer: "And seeing the multitudes,
  • 07:47 he went up on a mountain, and he taught them as one having
  • 07:51 authority: 'Blessed are the meek,
  • 07:56 for they shall inherit the earth.
  • 07:59 You are the light of the world.
  • 08:03 Whoever compels you to go a mile, go with him two.
  • 08:08 Love your enemies.
  • 08:11 Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth.
  • 08:16 Judge not that you be not judged.
  • 08:21 Knock, and it will be opened to you.
  • 08:25 You will know them by their fruits.
  • 08:28 Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow,
  • 08:31 saying, "What shall we eat?"
  • 08:34 or "What shall we drink?" or "What shall we wear?"
  • 08:38 for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things,
  • 08:42 but seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness,
  • 08:48 and all of these things shall be added to you.'"
  • 08:53 Jeffrey: When I look at those dramatic vignettes,
  • 08:56 I'm struck by the beauty, the simplicity,
  • 09:01 and the profundity.
  • 09:04 There's a whole new world.
  • 09:06 People are living so wrong in modernity.
  • 09:10 We can correct it by going back to the Savior,
  • 09:13 who came in antiquity and applying what he taught
  • 09:17 to modern life and circumstance.
  • 09:21 There's so much. It's all so very rich.
  • 09:26 In the Johannine Gospel--and I wanna go there.
  • 09:30 I wanna pivot away from Matthew,
  • 09:32 where you have the Sermon on the Mount.
  • 09:35 In the 10th chapter, the 9th verse,
  • 09:37 Yeshua, Jesus, says, "I'm the gate," or "I am the door."
  • 09:41 The door.
  • 09:43 "If anyone comes in through me, he will be delivered," or saved.
  • 09:52 Actually, the Greek word there, "sozo,"
  • 09:54 is "save, delivered, healed, put back together again,"
  • 10:01 and it's not just the soul.
  • 10:02 In church, people talk about "soul winning,"
  • 10:04 and I appreciate that.
  • 10:06 People talk about gettin' the soul saved so,
  • 10:08 when we die, we can experience eternal life.
  • 10:11 I get that. I believe that.
  • 10:13 The fact, however, is today people aren't asking
  • 10:15 as much whether there's life after death.
  • 10:17 People wanna know if there's life before death.
  • 10:20 And the word "saved," as in "Come to Jesus and be saved,"
  • 10:24 doesn't just speak to the issues of the soul.
  • 10:26 It speaks to the issues of life, body, soul, spirit.
  • 10:33 It can apply to finances, relationships,
  • 10:35 a myriad of things.
  • 10:37 And "myriad" literally means "thousands."
  • 10:40 The number is vast.
  • 10:43 Jesus said, "I am the gate.
  • 10:45 I am the doorway into a whole new life."
  • 10:49 He says, "Those who come through
  • 10:52 and walk the path too will be delivered."
  • 10:59 At the outset of this series, I had thought and said that,
  • 11:03 initially, I and we just wanted to name this "Deliverance,"
  • 11:08 but we knew that if the series was just titled "Deliverance,"
  • 11:12 then it would play back to a Burt Reynolds movie
  • 11:14 and some things that were less than religious and all that,
  • 11:17 so we wanted to go with "Divine Deliverance,"
  • 11:21 so people know we're not talking about that.
  • 11:23 We're talking about this.
  • 11:25 It's a shame, by the way, that the word "deliverance"
  • 11:27 has kind of been hijacked in the language,
  • 11:29 such that people might go to that
  • 11:32 when they really need to go to this.
  • 11:34 And not just "this" as in a "page."
  • 11:36 They need to go to him, the person who's noted on the page.
  • 11:40 Truth of the matter, there is a whole new life.
  • 11:47 Here, we're talking about a passageway.
  • 11:49 In the Sermon on the Mount, we're talking about a path.
  • 11:53 It's interesting, in the Jewish religion,
  • 11:56 the religious way is referred to as a path.
  • 11:59 And to walk the way, it's called "halicha," from the Hebrew verb,
  • 12:04 "halak," which means "to walk."
  • 12:07 Even the expression that we hear in the Matthean Gospel,
  • 12:10 the Gospel of Matthew, when Yeshua,
  • 12:13 "Enter by the narrow way, for the gate is narrow,
  • 12:16 and the way is hard that leads to life,
  • 12:18 and those who find it are few," that's even borrowing
  • 12:21 from a Hebraic expression that the Torah way is a narrow path,
  • 12:25 and those who walk it are few.
  • 12:27 Conversely, the heathen way is a broad way,
  • 12:30 and many go to it through their own destruction.
  • 12:33 Here we're talking about a new way of being.
  • 12:36 Yeshua says, "I am the gate," or "I am the door.
  • 12:39 If anyone comes in through me, he will be saved
  • 12:43 and will go in and out and find pasture."
  • 12:49 I don't know what you think of when you hear the word "anyone."
  • 12:55 You might be the kind of person that thinks that
  • 12:57 this all applies to someone else but not you.
  • 13:01 Maybe you're too lost, maybe you did it before,
  • 13:03 and you turned away.
  • 13:05 Maybe you just find yourself in a place you just have trouble
  • 13:08 with it all anymore, and you've gotten yourself in big trouble.
  • 13:12 Maybe you're the only one who knows it.
  • 13:14 When he says, "If anyone comes through me,
  • 13:17 he will be saved," is he talking to you
  • 13:20 or just people that show up on television?

  • 18:31 There's a wonderful story about renewal,

  • 18:43 and not just new ways of being, but there's empowerment
  • 18:47 to walk in the new way.
  • 18:52 When he says, "He who hears these words of mine,
