Episode: “Do You Love Me?”
After the resurrected Savior met Peter and other disciples at the Sea of Galilee, they experienced revival. The miraculous catch of fish foreshadowed the Great Commission’s bountiful harvest. As Jesus did with Peter, He offers grace and forgiveness to all who follow Him.
Series: “Much Like Peter”
On the shore of the Sea of Galilee, Yeshua began His ministry by calling disciples to follow Him. One of these was Peter — who often acted before thinking. Even so, the Messiah foresaw that this simple fisherman would become the leader of the Apostles and a powerful voice for the Gospel.

This series features teaching by Dr. Jeffrey Seif, reenactments by Israeli actors, David and Kirsten Hart singing songs by Zola on location in Israel, interviews with Israeli Believers, and modern life applications with the Harts. Each program reveals that many of us who follow the Lord are “much like Peter.”

  • 21:14 Well, I feel that way about this.
  • 21:16 Where'd the fish come from?
  • 21:18 Did Jesus fish it out?
  • 21:19 Did the risen Savior himself knead that bread out?
  • 21:22 Can you imagine eating bread that the risen Messiah himself
  • 21:25 made and cooked on fire?
  • 21:28 I bet it was spectacular.
  • 21:29 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Well, I never thought of that.
  • 21:31 David: Did it just appear?
  • 21:32 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Well, I never thought--like,
  • 21:33 of course, I don't live in a woman's experience
  • 21:35 in terms of making the meal.
  • 21:37 And you're there, Jesus, preparing a meal for the family,
  • 21:39 and the exalted Lord, you know.
  • 21:42 It is kind of profound.
  • 21:43 Kirsten: Right?
  • 21:44 I mean, he could have come with his scepter and his crown,
  • 21:46 and it's just he's back to normal.
  • 21:48 He's back to normal life with Peter.
  • 21:50 They're out fishing.
  • 21:51 He yells out to them.
  • 21:53 And then what did that fish and bread taste like?
  • 21:56 I think it was the best meal ever, in my opinion.
  • 21:58 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: It's great. Kirsten: Isn't that neat?
  • 22:00 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: It really is,
  • 22:02 and it reminds me the Lord provides for us.
  • 22:03 He makes it for us. He wants to bless.
  • 22:06 They were tired. They were hungry.
  • 22:08 It wasn't a good night.
  • 22:09 It was a long night's work, and they had a great ending
  • 22:11 with an amazing catch, but these people were exhausted.
  • 22:14 And Jesus is sensitive of that and cares about these people.
  • 22:18 David: I'm thinking about all we've heard from you
  • 22:20 so far about Peter's story from all of our programs.
  • 22:23 There's been a lot of grace that he's received through it all.
  • 22:27 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: That's really why I wanted to do it.
  • 22:29 You know, that's what I, I think that's why
  • 22:31 I gravitate to characters like Peter, and like David.
  • 22:36 It's just you see him in the humanity,
  • 22:39 and God loves them.
  • 22:41 Kirsten: And this was redemption morning.
  • 22:43 You know, Peter still-- I mean, yes, he knew Jesus rose.
  • 22:46 But what we humans do is we've done that stuff.
  • 22:51 We've done something, and it's still eating away at us.
  • 22:54 He didn't have--you talk about a come to Jesus meeting.
  • 22:58 He had a mini come to Jesus meeting,
  • 23:01 where Jesus gave him opportunity to redeem himself.
  • 23:05 That's incredible.
  • 23:07 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: That's really important, too.
  • 23:08 That really is, giving people-- he did give him a break,
  • 23:11 but he afforded him an opportunity
  • 23:13 to reaffirm what Peter really was.
  • 23:15 You know, sometimes we get knocked out of kilter
  • 23:18 because of sin and circumstance, but our heart's really good,
  • 23:21 even with it all, but we need to be able to return back
  • 23:25 to that first love and articulate.
  • 23:28 That's profound.
  • 23:30 Kirsten: No, and I love that.
  • 23:32 And can we just touch upon real quick, again, the 153 fish?
  • 23:36 I think in so many-- even Bible class,
  • 23:39 you mentioned that--you know, we've been to Bible college.
  • 23:41 We kind of read over that.
  • 23:43 That was extremely significant, the 153, was it not?
  • 23:47 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Yeah,
  • 23:48 John uses more symbolism than others, arguably.
  • 23:50 There's a few schools of thought on that.
  • 23:52 One, the rabbis identified 153 languages,
  • 23:55 and it's indicative of throw the net in there and bring
  • 23:59 in all people.
  • 24:01 Similarly, I remember an anthropology professor
  • 24:04 at Notre Dame at a doctoral lecture said,
  • 24:07 "If you take 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and just add them,
  • 24:09 it comes up to 153.
  • 24:11 It's a way in Latin where we say, ad infinitum;
  • 24:14 that is, it goes on indefinitely.
  • 24:17 The point is, just throw the net in there,
  • 24:19 and it's all going to come.
  • 24:21 You're going to see it come your way.
  • 24:22 And that's what he said 2,000 years ago;
  • 24:24 and 2,000 years later, it looks like he was right.
  • 24:26 Kirsten: It is.
  • 24:28 We should all be out fishing for those men and women
  • 24:29 of the world.
  • 24:31 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: That's true. Kirsten: Every language.
  • 24:32 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Yes.
  • 24:33 David: So good.
  • 24:35 There's a song that I recorded from our founder, Zola Levitt.
  • 24:36 It's the question that Yeshua asks Peter.
  • 24:38 "Do you love me?"
  • 24:40 And now it's time for us to end our program.
  • 24:42 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: It's time to say goodbye.
  • 24:43 As you go now, sha'alu shalom Yerushalayim.
  • 24:46 David: Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
