Episode: “Humble Beginnings”
In a simple animal stall, Jesus (Yeshua) supernaturally came into the world as a baby, lived to fulfill the Law, and promised to return as the Lion of Judah. Interview: Daniel Sayag, Lead Pastor of Kehilat HaCarmel (Carmel Congregation).
Series: “Close Encounters with Yeshua”
This ten-program series focuses on how Jesus/Yeshua supernaturally came and ministered on Earth, and today calls all mortals to draw near to Him. David and Kirsten Hart introduce each episode from the studio, while Myles and Katharine Weiss teach in Israel, using dramatic re-enactments and interviews with Believers about their journeys to faith in Yeshua, the Jewish Messiah.

Caption transcript for Close Encounters with Yeshua: “Humble Beginnings” (2/10)

  • 00:01 Hi, I'm Kirsten Hart
  • 00:03 And I'm David Hart.
  • 00:05 On today's program Myles will be
  • 00:06 teaching at a first century manger.
  • 00:09 And we have a drama with a shepherd
  • 00:12 who had a close encounter with Angels and the Baby Yeshua.
  • 00:16 I'm excited today.
  • 00:17 We get to sing one of Zola's songs.
  • 00:19 Stay with us.
  • 00:29 It was not long ago our first encounter
  • 00:31 on the waters of the Galilee.
  • 00:33 My hand is completely restored.
  • 00:36 He said, Your faith has saved you.
  • 00:39 I've heard Yeshua speak in our synagogue.
  • 00:42 He talked about the Kingdom of God.
  • 00:45 Then He showed us His wounds in His hands and His feet.
  • 00:49 I believe He really is a King.
  • 01:02 Shalom, Havarim, welcome Friends to our program.
  • 01:05 I'm Myles Weiss
  • 01:06 and I'm Katharine Weiss and we want
  • 01:08 to welcome you to our series,
  • 01:10 Close Encounters with Yeshua.
  • 01:12 "Yeshua" is the Hebrew way to say "Jesus"
  • 01:15 And we're going to be talking about
  • 01:16 His humble beginnings.
  • 01:17 You know it's so easy for
  • 01:19 people to think about aliens
  • 01:21 and space ships and supernatural phenomena,
  • 01:23 witches and warlocks, etc.
  • 01:24 But to realize that the Bible
  • 01:26 is a supernatural story.
  • 01:28 It's a book of supernatural events including
  • 01:30 God becoming man as a baby
  • 01:32 in the most humble beginnings
  • 01:34 And I love Mary's response to the Angel's appearance
  • 01:37 when he tells her that this is going to happen to her,
  • 01:40 that she's going to be the one Messiah will come through.
  • 01:43 She says, Be it unto me according to Your Word.
  • 01:48 And any time we're faced with
  • 01:50 challenges in our life that
  • 01:52 we need the supernatural
  • 01:53 let that be our response,
  • 01:55 Be it unto me according to Your Word
  • 01:57 That's a really healthy response when you're
  • 01:59 talking about a supernatural God with ultimate power.
  • 02:01 The Creator of the Universe is speaking to someone.
  • 02:04 I just remember when we were working on this series and
  • 02:07 being there with the sheep and
  • 02:09 recognizing the humility of the beginnings and how
  • 02:13 the shepherds, the outsiders,
  • 02:16 the ones who were simple folks, regular people
  • 02:18 and God chooses them to reveal Himself to.
  • 02:21 It's and incredible story.
  • 02:23 So let's begin with the drama
  • 02:25 going back to Biblical times
  • 02:27 and then we'll come forward in time to today.
  • 02:29 But let's go see what it would be like.
  • 02:31 Let's imagine ourselves 2,000 years ago as
  • 02:33 these shepherds are dealing with the possibility
  • 02:36 that Messiah is in their midst.
  • 02:46 I tell you I saw it with my own eyes.
  • 02:50 We were watching our sheep near Bethlehem.
  • 02:52 It was night.
  • 02:55 And this unbelievable light appeared out of nowhere.
  • 02:59 We were almost blinded.
  • 03:01 And then this Angelic being
  • 03:07 tells us not to be afraid
  • 03:10 that a Savior had just been born
  • 03:13 here in the City of David.
  • 03:15 The Messiah, born here in Bethlehem.
  • 03:20 This Angel says,
  • 03:23 You'll find Him wrapped in cloth
  • 03:26 laying in a manager.
  • 03:28 In a manger!
  • 03:30 Where we feed our sheep!
  • 03:32 And then, an amazing Army of Angels above us
  • 03:37 praising God saying,
  • 03:40 [Speaking Hebrew]
  • 03:46 Peace on Earth, good will to all men!
  • 03:50 I tell you it was unbelievable!
  • 03:52 We hurried to Bethlehem where we found a babe
  • 03:56 along with His parents, Mary and Joseph.
  • 03:59 I have to wonder...
  • 04:03 Whom am I that I should gaze upon the face of the newborn Messiah?
  • 04:11 On the 8th day according to the Law of Moses
  • 04:15 He was brought to the Temple in Jerusalem.
  • 04:18 It was there that He was given the Name - "Yeshua"...
  • 04:23 "Salvation"!
  • 04:26 I'm just a shepherd.
  • 04:33 I don't know why I saw all of this.
  • 04:45 The supernatural birth of Yeshua HaMashiach
  • 04:48 took place in a cave like this
  • 04:50 with animals like this
  • 04:51 and a shepherd like this.
  • 04:53 We're living out today - similar time similar place and
  • 04:56 similar events as the birth of Yeshuah.
  • 04:59 Here we have the sheep and goats of the era.
  • 05:01 We have "ebbut", the manger,
  • 05:04 a feeding troth where the animals would feed.
  • 05:07 And that's the manger, the place where Yeshua was laid in.
  • 05:11 A manger like this.
  • 05:13 A cave like this.
  • 05:15 And a place like this.
  • 05:17 You know, the birth of Yeshua is a supernatural event.
  • 05:20 It was prophesied by the Prophet Micah
  • 05:23 and that it had to be in Bethlehem.
  • 05:25 It had to be in the City of David.
  • 05:27 It had to be from the line of Judah.
  • 05:30 And all of the personal issues
  • 05:33 that makes Yeshua the One,
  • 05:35 the Promised One,
  • 05:36 the awaited One,
  • 05:37 took place in a setting similar to this.
  • 05:39 In fact, in Luke we read that when the
  • 05:42 Angels came to announce the birth of Yeshua,
  • 05:45 the shepherds were so taken aback that
  • 05:48 they fell on their faces because they
  • 05:51 couldn't believe this supernatural announcement
  • 05:53 that was coming to them through the Angelic Hosts saying,
  • 05:56 [Speaking Hebrew]
  • 06:02 "Today is born to you in the City of David
  • 06:07 a Messiah, a Savior, the LORD".
  • 06:11 The very place where it would take place
  • 06:13 had to be the City of David.
  • 06:15 And what was that city?
  • 06:16 "Beit Lechem"
  • 06:17 "The House of Bread"
  • 06:18 because the "Bread of Heaven" was coming to earth.
  • 06:21 "Lechem"...
  • 06:25 The Bread of Life would be born in the City of Bread.
  • 06:28 And we see that here.
  • 06:29 We see that Micah in Chapter 5 says,
  • 06:44 A promise, an eternal promise from God that
  • 06:48 He Himself would come
  • 06:50 and become our atonement
  • 06:51 because only sinless blood can atone for our sin - like for like.
  • 06:56 It had to be perfectly divine and perfectly human.
  • 07:00 And that's what Yeshua brings to us.
  • 07:02 And so He comes as the Lamb of God.
  • 07:05 He comes to shepherds.
  • 07:07 He becomes the Good Shepherd
  • 07:09 and He is today that same Good Shepherd.
  • 07:13 And I would submit to you today that
  • 07:15 all we like sheep have gone astray.
  • 07:17 These animals are not easy to control.
  • 07:20 They're not easy to work with.
  • 07:22 And we would say that we are similar to that.
  • 07:24 We have our human will, our free will that God gave us
  • 07:28 and yet He wants us to bend our will to His.
  • 07:30 He wants us to bend our need to Him.
  • 07:33 And I say to people, we can bow now or we can bow later but
  • 07:36 the Scripture says that every knee will bow and
  • 07:39 every tongue confess that Yeshua is Lord
  • 07:42 to the Glory of Abba,
  • 07:44 the Glory of God the Father.
  • 07:46 The day is coming when the people of Israel will cry out...
  • 07:50 Baruch haba B'Shem Adonai
  • 07:52 Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord.
  • 07:56 That day is coming soon.

  • 08:57 So please continue to give as you are able.
  • 09:00 And let's continue this journey together.
  • 09:03 Thank you.
  • 09:06 Myles - Not only was the birth of Yeshua prophesied
  • 09:08 by the Hebrew prophets
  • 09:10 but there were those waiting for Him in the Temple,
  • 09:12 Simeon and Anna.
  • 09:14 Simeon, whose name means "God hears"
  • 09:16 and Anna whose name means "Grace".
  • 09:18 They were waiting to hear from God
  • 09:20 the message of grace that was coming to the Jewish people.
  • 09:23 Yeshua said of Himself,
  • 09:28 It was only much later in the story
  • 09:31 that this message, this Good News
  • 09:32 would go out to the Gentile world
  • 09:35 and be an open door for all the Gentiles who want to,
  • 09:38 to be knit into the commonwealth of Israel.
  • 09:42 And that's what we see happening in the story as it unfolds
  • 09:46 the promises to the Jewish people that a Savior
  • 09:50 would come to the House of Israel.
  • 09:52 And the promise that this would not only be
  • 09:56 salvation coming to the Jewish people
  • 09:58 but it would be a light to the nations.
  • 10:00 It speaks of it this way,
  • 10:02 [Speaking Hebrew]
  • 10:06 "A Light to light the nations and the Glory of the people of Israel."
  • 10:11 Now, our rejection nationally of Yeshua
  • 10:15 did not mean that there were not always those
  • 10:18 in every generation of my people that said "yes" to Yeshua
  • 10:21 and are still saying "yes" today.
  • 10:23 But because of our national rejection
  • 10:26 the salvation was open to the entire world.
  • 10:29 And that's been good news.
  • 10:31 The Scripture says later on, if our
  • 10:32 rejection has been the salvation of the world
  • 10:35 what will our acceptance be but life from the dead.
  • 10:38 And that's the season that we're coming into.
  • 10:41 We're coming into a season of resurrection life
  • 10:43 as world revival will be taking place amidst
  • 10:46 the wars, the confusion, the difficulty that is coming in the earth,
  • 10:50 it will also be world revival as people around the earth say
  • 10:54 "yes" to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob
  • 10:57 through the promised Mashiach -
  • 10:59 through Yeshua Ha Mashiach.
  • 11:01 And that's the season of the preparation for the return of the Lord.
  • 11:07 Simeon and Anna waited patiently.
  • 11:11 Simeon was looking forward to seeing the consolation of Israel,
  • 11:16 the hope of Israel...
  • 11:17 wanting to touch Him, to hold Him as a baby in his arms.
  • 11:20 And because Yeshua is very much the Jewish Messiah
  • 11:24 He was brought to the Temple on the 8th day according
  • 11:28 to the Word in Genesis 17, that
  • 11:30 every Jewish male must be circumcised on the 8th day.
  • 11:34 And so Yeshua was brought to the Temple to be circumcised
  • 11:38 to be part of the Jewish nation.
  • 11:41 I like to tell people when they come here in Israel,
  • 11:43 We look to the cross to see the sacrifice,
  • 11:46 the blood of Yeshua.
  • 11:47 But in a blank check to the Jewish people and to the world
  • 11:50 the first shedding of the blood took place on the 8th day
  • 11:54 forever identifying Yeshua as a Jew.
  • 11:59 He is the Lion of Judah.
  • 12:00 He came first as a Lamb
  • 12:02 but He is returning as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah.
  • 12:06 And He will always be recognized as
  • 12:09 a Jewish Messiah and the Savior of the world.
  • 12:12 What a Gift to our people!
  • 12:15 Because Yeshua Himself will say during the course of His ministry,
  • 12:23 And everything that was required under the Jewish law
  • 12:27 He fulfilled perfectly so that we wouldn't have to
  • 12:30 Because we can't.
  • 12:32 We do not have the ability in ourselves to fulfill the Law.
  • 12:35 That's why we need a Savior.
  • 12:38 In my wandering years I tried every other way
  • 12:40 to self improvement
  • 12:42 and to get to what I called God.
  • 12:45 But it turned out that I could not do it myself.
  • 12:47 I need the Grace of God like Anna.
  • 12:50 I needed the Hearing of God like Simeon
  • 12:53 to Hear the word of Grace and to say
  • 12:55 "yes" to the One who did it all for me and for you.
  • 13:12 I remember as a new believer reading,
  • 13:15 "You shall call His Name "Jesus"
  • 13:17 because He shall save His people."
  • 13:19 And it didn't make sense quite to me until I
  • 13:21 realized that "Jesus" in Hebrew is "Yeshua"
  • 13:23 like you said which means "Salvation".
  • 13:26 He was named for who He is.
  • 13:28 And it was such a shock for me to
  • 13:31 realize that all my wanderings
  • 13:32 and religion and spiritualism,
  • 13:34 I couldn't make my way to God,
  • 13:36 that God knew that and so He came to us.
  • 13:39 Right, it's not about how we obey
  • 13:41 or how we follow the rules.
  • 13:43 But it's how we believe.
  • 13:45 It's all about faith.
  • 13:47 You are saved by grace through faith,
  • 13:49 not that of yourself, it's a gift of God.
  • 13:52 Let's go now back to Israel and learn
  • 13:55 more about how our Lord came.
  • 14:01 Here we are in a cave in Israel.
  • 14:03 This cave is similar to what Yeshua would have been born in.
  • 14:07 We have a manger here reminding us of what humble means that
  • 14:12 the Lord, the King of Glory started with.
  • 14:14 He came Myles.
  • 14:16 He came to all of us and
  • 14:17 He came to save us all
  • 14:19 from this cursed earth.
  • 14:21 I's a pretty amazing story
  • 14:22 that the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords
  • 14:24 [Speaking Hebrew]
  • 14:27 And He comes as a baby
  • 14:29 and it so challenges our rational thought
  • 14:33 and our natural way of looking at things
  • 14:36 that God has supernaturally
  • 14:38 brought Messiah as a baby into this family of promise,
  • 14:42 Abraham, Isaac and Jacob who is Israel.
  • 14:45 And it's really a story of patience
  • 14:47 when you think about what Mariam and Joseph went through
  • 14:50 and what Simeon and Anna went through.
  • 14:52 I remember the Psalm,
  • 14:54 Psalm 27,
  • 15:03 There's patience that God calls us to.
  • 15:06 He gives us a promise.
  • 15:07 He gave Simeon a promise that
  • 15:09 he would see the Lord, the Messiah
  • 15:12 before he would pass this earth.
  • 15:14 And he waited a long time.
  • 15:16 And so did Anna.
  • 15:17 She had gone through many, many trials.
  • 15:19 She lost her husband,
  • 15:20 only was married 7 years.
  • 15:22 And then, she was of great age at 84 years old in the Temple
  • 15:27 waiting to see the coming of her Messiah.
  • 15:31 And she was fasting and praying.
  • 15:33 You know, I think of our own lives.
  • 15:35 That there are things that God has promised us
  • 15:37 and then we get into this long season in our life.
  • 15:40 And we think, Is it ever going to happen?
  • 15:42 Are we ever going to see the promise that God has given us?
  • 15:46 And He calls us to remember,
  • 15:48 to wait patiently,
  • 15:50 and we will see the fulfillment that God has said.
  • 15:53 That's such a good word.
  • 15:54 You know, we're not patient naturally.
  • 15:56 It doesn't come to us naturally.
  • 15:57 We need a supernatural enduement from the Lord
  • 16:00 in order to have patience.
  • 16:02 I think about our friend who is a worship leader
  • 16:05 in our congregation back home.
  • 16:07 How her husband, Christian husband prayed for her,
  • 16:10 this Jewish gal, for 25 years,
  • 16:13 until she finally said "yes" to Yeshua.
  • 16:16 And now she leads worship in several places
  • 16:18 and she covers for me teaching when we leave town.
  • 16:21 And she's become a real pillar in the House of the Lord.
  • 16:25 But it was 25 years of prayer, Katharine.
  • 16:28 WOW
  • 16:29 I mean she is a solid believer today.
  • 16:33 And then she would bring her mother who
  • 16:35 is a Holocaust Survivor, to our congregation.
  • 16:38 Her mom would come but there was no outward sign that
  • 16:41 she was saying "yes" to her Messiah yet.
  • 16:43 It wasn't until her deathbed that she said to Michelle,
  • 16:47 "I believe and I am so glad that you believe too"
  • 16:50 That's so important.
  • 16:52 You think about Simeon standing on the Word and
  • 16:54 Anna standing on the Word and
  • 16:56 Michelle standing on the Word praying for her mom and
  • 16:59 her mom coming and hearing the Word of God
  • 17:02 every time we gathered.
  • 17:04 And we couldn't see an outward sign that she was saying "yes."
  • 17:06 Remember, people who came from Auschwitz
  • 17:08 often came through with no belief in God at all,
  • 17:11 let alone to believe that Jesus,
  • 17:13 the Christian so-called God
  • 17:15 could be the Messiah of the Jewish people.
  • 17:17 It's such a stretch,
  • 17:19 such a long way to go.
  • 17:20 And I think about God's patience with us and how
  • 17:23 for 2,000 years He's watching over this Promise to Israel
  • 17:28 and this Promise that He would bring us back to the Land.
  • 17:30 And now the season is on us.
  • 17:32 And the revival is coming to the Jewish people.
  • 17:35 And we need to be like Anna and Simeon.
  • 17:38 And we need to see the promise
  • 17:40 and have seed form faith
  • 17:43 that there will be world-wide revival
  • 17:46 and that there will be a revival in Israel
  • 17:49 for the Jewish people in this coming time.
  • 17:52 There's such a connection between the restoration of Israel
  • 17:55 and the restoration of nations through revival.
  • 17:58 Think about this,
  • 17:59 Yeshua Himself, He would grow up to
  • 18:01 preach and to teach and to heal and to
  • 18:03 walk this earth in a miraculous way.
  • 18:05 And before He went to suffer at the cross
  • 18:07 He said to the Jewish leaders,
  • 18:22 Two promises that Yeshua brought to this world,
  • 18:26 to the Jewish people and to the nations as well.
  • 18:29 And we know that is happening in our day.
  • 18:31 The Jewish people are getting pressed
  • 18:34 to saying we need help from above.
  • 18:37 It's coming stronger every day and the
  • 18:39 nations are turning to the LORD.
  • 18:41 Greater numbers than ever before.
  • 18:44 We are looking for the return of Yeshua Ha Mashiach.
  • 18:55 If you're thinking about visiting the Holy Land
  • 18:57 come on a Zola Tour

  • 19:53 So that's a big draw for us to be able to go on the tours.
  • 19:55 And if we can fit in some time to see
  • 19:57 our boy who lives in Jerusalem it's a plus.
  • 20:00 It's so hard to believe he lives there.
  • 20:02 He works there,
  • 20:04 he walks those streets every day.
  • 20:05 It's really amazing.
  • 20:06 He eats that good food every day.
  • 20:08 We're excited about this next tour coming up.
  • 20:11 I remember our first tour about 5 years ago and
  • 20:15 we got off the plane and every where we went
  • 20:19 it was just an amazing experience.

  • 20:28 Yes - we knew that we were heading to Bethlehem area and
