Episode: “Living Water”
The Pool of Siloam, a recent archaeological discovery, was a place to perform cleansing rituals; there, Yeshua performed a miracle that proved He was a prophet, a priest, and the King we await. Interview: Arab Pastor Vincent Shammas (Seeds of Better Life Center in East Jerusalem).
Series: “Close Encounters with Yeshua”
This ten-program series focuses on how Jesus/Yeshua supernaturally came and ministered on Earth, and today calls all mortals to draw near to Him. • 00:02 And I'm Kirsten Hart.
  • 00:03 Today on "Close Encounters with Yeshua"
  • 00:06 Myles will be teaching in the Ancient City of David at the Pool of Siloam.
  • 00:11 Plus, we have a wonderful drama with an Israeli actor.
  • 00:15 We'll also have an interview with an Arab Pastor
  • 00:18 who lives in Eastern Jerusalem.
  • 00:20 Stay with us.
  • 00:30 It was not long ago our first encounter
  • 00:32 on the waters of the Galilee.
  • 00:34 My hand is completely restored.
  • 00:37 He said, Your faith has saved you.
  • 00:40 I've heard Yeshua speak in our synagogue.
  • 00:43 He talked about the Kingdom of God.
  • 00:46 Then He showed us His wounds in His hands and His feet.
  • 00:50 I believe He really is a King.
  • 01:02 Shalom Havarim, hello Friends I'm Myles Weiss.
  • 01:04 And I'm Katharine Weiss.
  • 01:06 Welcome to our series "Close Encounters with Yeshua"
  • 01:08 "Yeshua" is the Hebrew way for saying "Jesus".
  • 01:11 And this whole series is to represent Jesus in His Jewish identity.
  • 01:17 He came as a Jew.
  • 01:18 He ministered as a Jewish man.
  • 01:20 He broke some of the traditions of man.
  • 01:23 But He established God's Covenant.
  • 01:26 Yes, and He never broke the Law.
  • 01:28 He fulfilled the Law because He knew that we could not.
  • 01:30 But in the midst of fulfilling the Law
  • 01:32 He did these outrageous and wonderful miracles
  • 01:35 that everyone had to deal with.
  • 01:37 His very birth was a miracle.
  • 01:38 His life was a miracle.
  • 01:40 He produced miracles throughout His life.
  • 01:42 And He makes a spiritual provision for you and for me.
  • 01:45 Right.
  • 01:45 What we're doing in this series is
  • 01:47 we're putting it in the context
  • 01:48 of the Jewish community of His day.
  • 01:50 And we're also challenging Jewish and Gentile people today
  • 01:53 to deal with the fact that this is a "Hebraic" story from start to finish.
  • 01:57 Right
  • 01:58 Gentiles are welcome in.
  • 02:00 Well...God's always intended that there'd be "One New Man".
  • 02:04 Constantine tried to distance himself from
  • 02:07 the "Jewishness" of the Gospel.
  • 02:09 But God, in these days
  • 02:10 is restoring His identity.
  • 02:13 So, let's go to the drama now as we
  • 02:15 pick up with our character reacting
  • 02:17 to the miracles of Jesus and
  • 02:19 trying to deal with this "Miracle Working Messiah".
  • 02:29 [humming]
  • 02:35 ...like all them "fish miracles".
  • 02:39 Seems Yeshua takes pleasure in them.
  • 02:41 We saw the first one
  • 02:43 when He surprised Simon Peter and the rest of us
  • 02:45 with a catch that almost sunk our boats.
  • 02:49 It happened again today.
  • 02:52 I heard Yeshua was in the area of Beth-tsaida [Bethsaida]
  • 02:54 So I left my nets and headed in that direction.
  • 02:58 Must have been thousands of us...
  • 03:01 the sick, the lame, the blind.
  • 03:03 They came from everywhere,
  • 03:05 all wanting to see miracles.
  • 03:08 And they did.
  • 03:11 He...talked about the Kingdom of God,
  • 03:15 and then the fish,
  • 03:17 the "Big" miracle.
  • 03:20 We were all hungry and He knew it.
  • 03:22 It had been a long day.
  • 03:24 He lifted up 5 loaves and 2 small fish,
  • 03:27 looked to the heaven, said a "berakhot" [blessing]
  • 03:30 and then somehow they...multiplied.
  • 03:35 2 small fish multiplied enough to feed maybe 5,000!
  • 03:40 The best fish I've ever eaten.
  • 03:48 I tell you this Yeshua has a gift.
  • 03:51 He once told Peter that He would catch men.
  • 03:54 And I think I'm beginning to understand.
  • 03:57 I think I've been caught.
  • 03:59 He is bringing me in ever so slowly, inch by inch...
  • 04:04 into this "Kingdom".
  • 04:13 [humming]
  • 04:26 Wherever Yeshua went miracles took place,
  • 04:29 whether it was north, in the Galilee
  • 04:30 or here, in Jerusalem.
  • 04:32 I'm sitting at the Pool of Siloam.
  • 04:34 It's in the face of the City of David.
  • 04:37 The "City of David" is the original "Jerusalem".
  • 04:40 It's the original place where his kingdom was set up.
  • 04:43 And it's where the purpose for the kingdom
  • 04:46 was taken from the Jebusites.
  • 04:49 Now, the interesting thing about this City of David
  • 04:52 is that the reason it was here is because there's water here.
  • 04:56 And David knew that they would have to have water.
  • 05:00 When the Jebusites held this place
  • 05:03 they mocked David and said, that he
  • 05:05 could not take this place even if the lame and the blind defended it.
  • 05:10 We'll get to that in a moment because
  • 05:12 Yeshua is going to do something about that threat.
  • 05:14 In 1993, in Tel Dan
  • 05:17 a stone was found that said...
  • 05:20 It spoke of an Aramaic king
  • 05:21 who had defeated the kings from the House of David.
  • 05:25 and that's how we know David was a real person.
  • 05:27 It may be hard for you to believe
  • 05:29 if you're a Bible scholar or student
  • 05:31 but people actually say that David never existed.
  • 05:34 But this "is" the City of David and he "did" exist.
  • 05:37 That stone slab confirms it.
  • 05:39 So, aqueducts were later developed by the Romans and
  • 05:42 they were able to transport water.
  • 05:44 But in the earlier days the water was down here.
  • 05:47 And then, the Pool of Siloam became a giant "mikvah".
  • 05:51 It became a giant "place of ritual cleansing"
  • 05:54 before going up to the Temple,
  • 05:56 which is behind me up on Mount Zion, on "Mount Moriah".
  • 06:00 This word "sent", it is
  • 06:03 "siloam", "shiloach", "shaliach",
  • 06:07 which is the Hebrew word for "sent"
  • 06:09 which is where we get the word "Apostelos" or "Apostle"
  • 06:13 Yeshua was sent from the Father.
  • 06:16 The disciples were sent by Yeshua and
  • 06:19 this very place is called "Sent" and
  • 06:22 Yeshua is going to command the man who He will heal here
  • 06:25 to go to the Pool of Siloam
  • 06:27 and to wash in the place called "Sent",
  • 06:29 tying Himself to the prophetic word,
  • 06:32 to the "Jewishness" of the Gospel and
  • 06:35 to the threat to David about the lame and the blind,
  • 06:38 because He would heal a blind man here.
  • 06:41 What is about this place that's so amazing to us?
  • 06:44 First of all, it's so recently uncovered.
  • 06:46 It's only been in the last number of years
  • 06:48 that this has been found.
  • 06:49 It was found by accident.
  • 06:51 They were doing some construction up above and
  • 06:53 a bulldozer hit a stone and from that
  • 06:56 this entire pool began to be unearthed.
  • 06:58 It's still way much more to be unearthed.
  • 07:01 It's just the beginning of this.
  • 07:03 There's some opposition of course, based on who owns the real estate.
  • 07:06 But the fact is, that this "is" the Pool of Siloam.
  • 07:09 There's no question about it.
  • 07:11 And it's from here that the waters from the Gihon Spring
  • 07:14 were connected to the Temple,itself.
  • 07:17 When David came here he had to clean out,
  • 07:21 take away the Jebusites upon God's command
  • 07:24 in order to build this City of David.
  • 07:26 The whole City of David is a recent find.
  • 07:29 And it verifies forever that this City has been
  • 07:32 under Jewish control or ownership or "rental from God"
  • 07:37 since 3,000 years ago when David was here,
  • 07:41 1,000 years before Jesus.
  • 07:43 David built the City of David.
  • 07:46 This is the original Jerusalem.
  • 07:47 This is the place where the story begins.
  • 07:50 And then, developed into what we now know as "The Old City".
  • 07:54 This is the older city.
  • 07:55 And this pool is evidence that goes back to the time of David
  • 08:00 and then certainly to the time of Jesus.
  • 08:03 So what we learn from this is that David was real,
  • 08:07 Jesus, from the House of David, is real and
  • 08:09 the healings that took place here...
  • 08:11 also real.
  • 08:13 He's still healing today.
  • 08:15 He wants to be with you.

  • 09:05 and I've been working with Zola Levitt Ministries
  • 09:08 for over 20 years.
  • 09:10 For me this is not just a career,
  • 09:12 it's a calling.
  • 09:14 And I'm so grateful for those
  • 09:15 who feel called along side us.
  • 09:18 Your prayers and financial support

  • 09:25 So please continue to give as you are able.
  • 09:28 And let's continue this journey together.
  • 09:31 Thank you.
  • 09:34 This ministry has been bringing you Christianity through Jewish eyes
  • 09:37 for decades.
  • 09:39 And it is such a privilege to put Christ in His context as
  • 09:43 the Messiah of the Jews and the whole word.
  • 09:46 Let's go hear more from Myles near the Pool of Siloam
  • 09:50 on the steps going up to the Temple.
  • 09:55 We're so grateful that Christians around the world
  • 09:57 are recognizing the Jewish roots of the faith
  • 10:00 and understanding the "Jewishness" of Jesus
  • 10:03 and the debt that believers have to
  • 10:05 Israel and the Jewish people.
  • 10:07 What do you have that did not come through the Jewish people?
  • 10:11 He said himself, in John Chapter 4,
  • 10:13 that salvation is of the Jews.
  • 10:15 The whole story, the Patriarchs, the Prophets,
  • 10:18 the Word, Moses, king David and Jesus Himself
  • 10:21 all come from this place, from Israel.
  • 10:24 And it is, in fact, the birthplace of the community of faith
  • 10:29 Yeshua Himself was an observant Jew.
  • 10:31 He kept the Feasts.
  • 10:34 He was keeping the Feasts, when he was 12, in the Temple.
  • 10:36 And he was keeping them at this time when he was
  • 10:39 about to do this miracle at the Pool of Siloam.
  • 10:42 In John Chapter 7, it speaks about the disciples being sent
  • 10:46 ahead to "Tabernacles" [Feast] before Yeshua would come.
  • 10:52 The 3 Feasts periods, the "Shalosh Regalim",
  • 10:56 the 3 "Pilgrim Feasts" are still in effect today.
  • 10:59 And the City will "crowd up" with Jews from all over the world
  • 11:02 for "Pesach", "Shavuot" and "Succoth" which is,
  • 11:05 "Passover", "Pentecost" and "Tabernacles".
  • 11:08 All pictures of the prophetic fulfillment
  • 11:11 of God's Word regarding the fate and destiny of the Jewish people and
  • 11:14 those that are "grafted-in" to the House of Israel,
  • 11:17 Christians from around the world.
  • 11:19 At this Feast, the "Great Feast", the "Tabernacles Feast",
  • 11:22 the 7th Feast in the fulfillment,
  • 11:24 the picture of God "Tabernacling" with man;
  • 11:26 on this "Feast of Sukkot" Yeshua sent the disciples.
  • 11:30 And he said he would not go with them because his time had not yet come.
  • 11:34 It was at this Feast that from this place
  • 11:37 the priest would take the water up from the Gihon Spring,
  • 11:40 which feeds the Pool of Siloam,
  • 11:43 and walk up this Herodian road behind me up to the Temple,
  • 11:47 and pour the water out on the altar.
  • 11:51 It was during that ceremony that Yeshua stood up and said,
  • 11:55 "If anyone thirsts, let him come to me."
  • 11:58 He was speaking of the Spirit
  • 11:59 and he was also quoting Isaiah,
  • 12:01 forever tying Himself to the prophets and
  • 12:04 to the recognition that the prophetic Word was coming.
  • 12:08 This place is recently opened to tourists, to pilgrims.
  • 12:11 There are people coming from all over the world to see this new find,
  • 12:14 this Pool of Siloam.
  • 12:16 And it was from here that Yeshua would see
  • 12:19 the Priest going up for the first 7 days.
  • 12:22 And on the final day, on the 8th day, the day of celebration
  • 12:24 he would stand up and say, "If anyone thirsts" and
  • 12:28 he says it this way, quoting Isaiah,
  • 12:30 [Speaking Hebrew]
  • 12:34 speaking of the Spirit of God.
  • 12:37 Now, the controversy was ongoing.
  • 12:40 Some said, this is the Prophet we've been waiting for.
  • 12:42 And others said, that's not possible because he comes from Galilee and
  • 12:45 we know the Prophet will not come from Galilee.
  • 12:48 But they had forgotten that Yeshua, in fact,
  • 12:52 came from Bethlehem, the City of David,
  • 12:55 as prophesied by Micah Chapter 5.
  • 12:58 And that Yeshua, in fact, is the Prophet, Priest and
  • 13:03 King that we were all waiting for.
  • 13:06 And He's available to you today.
  • 13:15 This is very exciting for us.
  • 13:17 We are in the steps going up to the Temple.
  • 13:20 This is a recent find
  • 13:22 and we've never been in here, Katharine and I.
  • 13:25 And the fact is this is Herodian stone.
  • 13:27 What do we mean?
  • 13:29 It's 1st Century actual stone that
  • 13:31 went from the Pool of Siloam
  • 13:33 where the priests would bring the water
  • 13:34 up to the Temple for the rituals at Sukkoth.
  • 13:37 You may hear the sound of children in the background
  • 13:39 just as we see them on the mural, playing
  • 13:41 and being ready for the sacrifices.
  • 13:44 Well, this is a neighborhood that's fill with kids.
  • 13:46 And that's a fulfillment of prophecy.
  • 13:48 God said through his Word,
  • 13:50 the day would come again when the voices of
  • 13:52 children laughing and playing in the streets would be here.
  • 13:55 And thanks to Him that is happening in Israel.
  • 13:59 Yes, in John chapter 7 and 9
  • 14:02 it talks about the Pool of Siloam.
  • 14:04 It talks about the Lord coming to this pool on His timeframe.
  • 14:08 Remember, He kept the Feasts.
  • 14:10 He came to this area in fulfillment of all Scripture.
  • 14:14 He is the fulfillment.
  • 14:16 It's so amazing.
  • 14:17 Even in Isaiah 55...
  • 14:27 He was tying Himself to the Old Testament
  • 14:30 and He's saying, I am the fulfillment of all Testaments,
  • 14:33 I am this Living Water.
  • 14:34 "If you drink of me", it says in John 4,
  • 14:37 "out of your belly will come rivers of living water".
  • 14:41 You will have a water that only God can give you
  • 14:44 which is an eternal water, an everlasting water,
  • 14:47 a water that satisfies for all eternity.
  • 14:50 It goes on in John 7 that God Himself would fulfill it.
  • 14:55 Right Myles?
  • 14:56 I mean, He is the "Sent" One from God.
  • 14:58 And He came to the Pool of "Sent" [Siloam]
  • 15:01 He came to speak to the people about
  • 15:04 the miracle that He was about to fulfill.
  • 15:06 You see, the Pharisees came to Him and they said,
  • 15:09 This blind man... who sinned?
  • 15:11 Did he sin or did his parents sin?
  • 15:14 And I love how the Lord emphasizes
  • 15:16 not the sin, but the cause is that
  • 15:19 He came to fulfill and He came that
  • 15:23 God Himself would show forth His works.
  • 15:26 That this would bring the Glory back to God,
  • 15:29 not to focus on man's sin.
  • 15:31 Right, but the provision
  • 15:33 that He was going to bring.
  • 15:34 This ties also to the challenge from
  • 15:37 the Jebusites 1,000 years earlier when the Jebusites
  • 15:40 told David the lame and the blind could fortify this place against you.
  • 15:44 And what did Yeshua do?
  • 15:45 He came to Israel.
  • 15:47 He came to Jerusalem,
  • 15:48 born in Bethlehem.
  • 15:49 And when He came here
  • 15:51 the 2 miracles that He did;
  • 15:52 one at the Pool of Bethesda
  • 15:53 where He healed the lame man who was lame for 38 years,
  • 15:56 and here He healed the blind man
  • 15:59 And so the blind and the lame
  • 16:00 were overcome by David with war
  • 16:04 but Yeshua, the Prince of Peace resurrected
  • 16:07 and healed, and lifted people
  • 16:09 from the degradation of illness and sin
  • 16:12 and healed the lame and the blind here in Jerusalem.
  • 16:15 The focus was not about who's sin was who.
  • 16:19 Because Jesus was bringing it back to the focus that
  • 16:22 He Himself was sent by the Father to fulfill all Scripture
  • 16:26 so that all could have everlasting life.
  • 16:29 He met the woman at the well,
  • 16:31 showing again that it was a non-Jew
  • 16:33 but He was inviting her in to this life giving water.
  • 16:37 And you know Myles?
  • 16:38 God Himself created us out of the dust of the ground.
  • 16:42 And again, He's recreating the blind man's sight by
  • 16:46 putting dust with saliva and then God Himself creates the miracle.
  • 16:50 What a picture.
  • 16:51 God formed Adam from the dust of the earth.
  • 16:53 Yeshua identifying Himself as Messiah,
  • 16:56 as Creator, One with the Father.
  • 16:59 He takes the dust of the earth,
  • 17:01 adds His Life to it
  • 17:04 and creates a miracle;
  • 17:06 sends the man to the Pool of Siloam to be healed.
  • 17:09 And it's a complete fulfillment of this
  • 17:12 identification of Yeshua as Messiah
  • 17:15 and putting to rest the controversy about who He is.
  • 17:18 He "is" Messiah
  • 17:20 and He's looking for a relationship with you.
  • 17:22 And He wants you to have this everlasting water
  • 17:26 so that your life will have a wellspring
  • 17:30 so that you'll never be dry again.

  • 21:19 and I studied Islam too.
  • 21:22 I know the mentality of our Christians in this area
  • 21:26 and I know the Israeli mentality too.
  • 21:29 I know the language too.
  • 21:31 So the Lord put all these gifts in my life so that
  • 21:34 I can reach out to all these people to the Lord.
  • 21:36 This is music to my ears
  • 21:38 because for my wife and I
  • 21:39 it's been the heartbeat of our ministry.
  • 21:41 Our ministry at home is called
  • 21:43 Beit Shalom, "The House of Peace"
  • 21:45 because we believe that this is possible.
  • 21:47 We see it.
  • 21:49 And so tell me about some people
  • 21:51 that perhaps you have seen
  • 21:52 the transformation in their life, or change.
  • 21:54 There's two examples.
  • 21:58 We have one Arab with a Muslim background.
  • 22:04 We were talking to him about 3 years ago about the Lord.
  • 22:09 And you know to talk with Muslims it's difficult.
  • 22:13 Same with Jews.
  • 22:15 Yeah!
  • 22:16 But we're starting first with the more difficult.
  • 22:21 So I don't want to speak a lot about this
  • 22:24 but mostly people, like American people coming from the States,
  • 22:29 they go give brochures for the people,
  • 22:32 "Okay, you got saved, you can go now."
  • 22:34 ...In 2 minutes.
  • 22:35 And really, I don't think this is the right way.
  • 22:38 I sat down with this man and I started to talk
  • 22:41 about what he believes, as a man who studied what he believed.
  • 22:46 And then I put the verses of what he believes.
  • 22:50 And since the time I can get my verses from the Bible
  • 22:54 I'm telling him, don't [see] Christian, just see God is love,
  • 23:00 and there are many verses there about killing.
  • 23:04 And this is true.
  • 23:05 He said, No.
  • 23:06 I showed him verses.
  • 23:07 In the Quran?
  • 23:08 Yes
  • 23:09 And the many things I could show him.
  • 23:14 So he read this one and this one and he...
  • 23:18 You know, he has orders to kill,
  • 23:24 and I have an order to love...
  • 23:28 you see?
  • 23:29 I said just leave the Christianity out of the Islam.
  • 23:33 I said, who as a human is nicer?
  • 23:36 Yes, yes, that's wonderful!
  • 23:38 But one thing you said is very important.
  • 23:40 This is not a simple formula,
  • 23:43 2 minutes and now you are a believer.
  • 23:45 This takes time.
  • 23:46 3 years.
  • 23:47 3 years.
  • 23:49 And now he has some problem with his family.
  • 23:52 We're praying for an open door that people can help
  • 23:56 my church to have a house for these people
  • 23:59 because we have almost 8 persons whose families are persecuting them.
  • 24:05 And we need a house to continue to teach them about the Lord,
  • 24:08 and at least to keep them safe.
  • 24:11 We don't have this ability right now but we're praying for this.
  • 24:14 Have there been conferences or meetings where
  • 24:17 you've seen the Arab people come together?
  • 24:19 Yeah, we are doing activities among the women,
  • 24:24 like the Mother's Day in Jerusalem.
  • 24:26 We had Jewish and Muslims...
  • 24:28 let's say "Israeli" and "Arab" people in our church.
  • 24:32 And how it makes me so happy...
  • 24:36 or let's say, how much it makes the Lord happy
  • 24:39 when there are conflicts outside of the church between Arab and Jews
  • 24:44 and you see them hugging and loving each other through Christ.
  • 24:48 If you don't have Christ you cannot love anyone.
  • 24:52 So the way to love Jews and Jews love Arab and
  • 24:56 everyone love everyone is through Jesus.
  • 24:58 Is there anything you would like to say to the Western Church
  • 25:02 directly, something that's been in your heart that you wish
  • 25:05 we would understand, in the west?
  • 25:07 Yes, the church and all over the world away from the middle east;
  • 25:15 they are nice and believe in God,
  • 25:21 but they don't know that there is Arab believers here
  • 25:24 who love Jesus and love Jewish and love everyone
  • 25:27 according to the Bible, and who are teaching the Bible.
  • 25:30 I was in Africa teaching many pastors about the Lord, and
  • 25:34 how to love Israel, and how to support the State of Israel.
  • 25:37 I just came from there.
  • 25:40 And we need these people just to see and to support and to pray for us because
  • 25:46 we want to continue to teach our nations, the Arab people,
  • 25:51 that without Jesus there is no salvation, there is no Kingdom of God and there is no love.
  • 25:57 So, I'm seeking in Jerusalem at least...
  • 26:00 I want everyone to love everyone because God is love.
  • 26:05 Yes
  • 26:05 Amen.
  • 26:08 I love that story.
  • 26:09 It reminds me so much of...
  • 26:12 it's more relationships than...
  • 26:14 I remember as a teen our youth group
  • 26:17 got on the bus, went to the mall,
  • 26:20 and as we were getting off the bus
  • 26:23 our youth director passed out...what were they?
  • 26:25 Tracts!
  • 26:26 Tracts, yes.
  • 26:28 And we had to go through the mall and...
  • 26:30 Did you have a stack?
  • 26:31 I had a stack.
  • 26:32 I remember they used to give stacks to us.
  • 26:33 You couldn't get back to the bus until you handed them all out.
  • 26:35 I don't even know what it said inside
  • 26:37 but we passed them out to people at the mall.
  • 26:39 And I have the feeling that most of those tracts
  • 26:42 ended up in the trash can.
  • 26:43 Probably,
  • 26:44 because it's about relationship.
  • 26:45 You don't just hand someone a tract
  • 26:47 and think they're a believer.
  • 26:49 To think that even Jesus had 3 years with His disciples.
  • 26:54 And after 3 years they were with Yeshua, the were with God Himself.
  • 26:58 And still after developing a relationship with Him
  • 27:01 some still denied Him, and they ran off and they scattered.
  • 27:04 So it's not necessarily about the quickness,
  • 27:08 it's about developing the relationship
  • 27:10 just like the Arab Pastor with his people.
  • 27:12 It's our life, yes.
  • 27:14 We've been saying this now for 3 decades,
  • 27:16 Sha'alu Shalom Yerushalayim
  • 27:18 Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem.
