  • 01:02 Shalom and welcome to our program. I'm Myles Weiss.
  • 01:04 And I'm Katharine Weiss and we want to welcome you
  • 01:07 to our program Ancient Gates and Future Glory.
  • 01:10 In Jerusalem we're bringing you around the city of our Lord to show you His gates.
  • 01:16 There's such a story that is told by the gates.
  • 01:18 Each one that we go through tells a different aspect of
  • 01:21 the Lord, a different aspect of history, the present conflict
  • 01:24 and the future that's coming that is prophetic in nature.
  • 01:27 This land speaks, doesn't it?
  • 01:29 It really does and that's why we love to bring people there.
  • 01:31 I love our new set. We're bringing Jerusalem into your homes.
  • 01:33 It's really great for us to be here.
  • 01:36 Our guest today, David Parsons.
  • 01:38 One of our favorite interviewees.
  • 01:39 He's from the International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem.
  • 01:42 When the embassies of the world determined not to move their embassy's from Tel Aviv to
  • 01:48 Jerusalem the Christians of the world said - We will go to Jerusalem because it is the
  • 01:53 ancient capital of the Jewish people.
  • 01:55 Then we also have Jan Willem van der Hoeven.
  • 01:58 He was raised up by Corrie ten Boom and has
  • 02:01 the same passion for seeing the Jewish people saved, safe, and
  • 02:05 coming to faith.
  • 02:06 Yes, and it's beautiful because you see the friendship between
  • 02:09 the Jews and the Christians.
  • 02:10 The Jewish people have said that the Christians are our only
  • 02:13 friends because they're aligning themselves with the book, with
  • 02:17 the bible, a lot like Corrie ten Boom's father said
  • 02:20 to Corrie. Of course we're going to stand with the Jewish people
  • 02:23 in the face of their persecution and in the face of this onslaught from Hitler because
  • 02:28 they're the people of the book. They're the people of the bible.
  • 02:31 When you stand with them you're standing with God.
  • 02:33 Exactly so. As a Jewish person it is so powerful and so comforting for
  • 02:40 me to know that there are believers around the world
  • 02:43 that are awakening and are beginning to stand with the Jews
  • 02:45 It's a miracle.
  • 02:47 So we're calling you to be a friend with Israel.
  • 02:50 So join us now as we go to the New Gate.
  • 03:07 We're at the Old City of Jerusalem standing near
  • 03:09 the New Gate. This is the Sha'ar Ha'Chadash and it is
  • 03:13 the gate that was the most recently rebuild at the end of the 19th century.
  • 03:18 It is our joy to bring you these gates.
  • 03:21 This is the Old City behind us.
  • 03:23 The Christian Quarter is behind us.
  • 03:25 Surrounding the Old City is the modern city of Jerusalem.
  • 03:28 When you think about Jerusalem, it is the desire of all nations
  • 03:32 scripture says and the only way to understand this city or this nation is to understand it
  • 03:37 through scripture. You can't understand it through your mind
  • 03:40 or through politics or even what the news is saying, but you have
  • 03:43 to rest in and rely on what the Word of God says.
  • 03:46 That is exactly the truth.
  • 03:47 How can you ever, anyone, any of us understand what's going on in
  • 03:51 the world, especially in this part of the world except through
  • 03:53 the lens of the bible, the Holy Word of God.
  • 03:56 Being near the Christian Quarter is especially significant for us
  • 03:59 on this television program because we want to bring a
  • 04:03 message to the Christian world about the restoration that God
  • 04:07 want to bring to the Christian world right now.
  • 04:09 Part of that has to do with our understanding of prophecy, the
  • 04:13 end-times and the role of Israel vis-a-vis the church.
  • 04:16 God in this time is restoring and He has restored and it is
  • 04:20 amazing what He is doing even in the Feast of Tabernacles that is here.
  • 04:23 Once a year Christians are coming from all around the world
  • 04:26 to say we stand with the scriptures, we stand with God,
  • 04:29 and therefore we're standing with the Jewish people to see
  • 04:32 them fully restored never again to be plucked up out of this land.
  • 04:36 I like to call it the gospel according to Zechariah.
  • 04:39 In chapters 12, 13, and 14 Zechariah tells us about the
  • 04:43 return of the Lord, the coming of the Messiah and also it says
  • 04:46 that there's coming a day when all the nations will come up to
  • 04:49 keep the Feast of Tabernacles.
  • 04:51 Christians are beginning to do that.
  • 04:53 There's going to be such a revolution in the hearts of
  • 04:56 Christians around the world, those who are believers that
  • 04:59 those that remain, those that are here, those that are part
  • 05:02 of the millennial kingdom will come up once a year to celebrate
  • 05:05 tabernacles with the Jewish people.
  • 05:08 I know you want to be in on that.
  • 05:10 Absolutely, so when you're here behind us remember to pray for
  • 05:13 all the Christians around the world that they would have God's
  • 05:17 eye and not man's eye about Jerusalem.

  • 06:27 Standing outside the New Gate, Sha'ar Ha'Chadash it's so
  • 06:30 significant at this time in the age in which we are living
  • 06:33 because the New Gate is the closest to the Christian Qtr.
  • 06:37 Think historically about how difficult it's been for
  • 06:40 the church to be in unity with the purposes of God and the
  • 06:44 purposes of the hour. Right now even if you were to go inside,
  • 06:47 come on a trip with us, come as a pilgrim you'll see that where
  • 06:51 the Greek Orthodox and the Catholic churches are living
  • 06:54 side by side. They're actually fighting over the status quo.
  • 06:58 What is called these issues the way they are.
  • 07:01 They actually have to leave these boundaries the way they
  • 07:04 were in the 19th century. They argue over that.
  • 07:07 It's a real picture for us of the desire on the heart of God
  • 07:10 to bring unity to the church.
  • 07:13 I wonder what is going to bring that unity?
  • 07:15 Right now there is a divide over the importance of Israel.
  • 07:18 The relative place of Israel vis a vis the church.
  • 07:21 I think that it may be THE issue that divides sheep and goats at some point.
  • 07:27 It may be THE issue that is the turning point for churches around the world.
  • 07:32 I think about the admonishment, the exhortation in Deuteronomy 6
  • 07:37 [speaking Hebrew]
  • 07:41 That ye shall put this sign upon your house, upon your gates.
  • 07:44 We're to live within the gates of the Lord just as with the story of Ruth.
  • 07:48 The elders sat in the gates.
  • 07:50 The gates symbolize authority and responsibility.
  • 07:54 We're to live in such a way that we bring the purposes of God
  • 07:57 to the forefront in our sphere of influence.
  • 08:00 I want to encourage you as you're hearing this message
  • 08:03 to remember 1 Corinthians 1 where Paul exhorted and
  • 08:08 admonished regarding divisions.
  • 08:10 He said very clearly that we need to be in unity with the
  • 08:12 Spirit of the Lord.
  • 08:14 Remember Psalm 133 tells us
  • 08:16 [speaking Hebrew]
  • 08:20 Behold how good and how pleasant it is when the brethren dwells together in unity.
  • 08:24 I think a unifying factor is going to be our love for Israel
  • 08:28 and the Jewish people and our willingness to provoke them to jealousy.
  • 08:33 I know you want to join me in that.
  • 08:36 It's like a reflection of what is in John 17 where Yeshua spoke
  • 08:39 about unity and He said that we would be known by our love
  • 08:43 and the unity that people saw within us for one another.
  • 08:47 Think about the scriptures, the prophetic scriptures that call
  • 08:50 for the return of the Jewish people.
  • 08:52 Ezekiel 36, Jeremiah 31, Amos 9.
  • 08:56 Those scriptures are so significant for the Christian
  • 08:59 church right now because we need to understand that it's up to us
  • 09:02 to stand with the rebuilding and the restoration of Zion because
  • 09:07 Yeshua is returning to a Jewish Jerusalem.
  • 09:12 He's returning as the Lion of the tribe of Judah.
  • 09:14 So I want to encourage you in your sphere of influence, where
  • 09:18 you sit in your gates as an authority by God in your place,
  • 09:22 in your church, to humbly but accurately encourage those
  • 09:26 around you to come to understand the reality of standing with
  • 09:31 Israel at this time.
  • 09:32 Will you do that with me?
  • 09:34 I know you will.

  • 10:41 That's really true. This gate, going through
  • 10:43 the New Gate really reminds me that this new thing that God is
  • 10:48 doing is ancient but new in terms of knitting together the
  • 10:52 people of the book as you said and bringing together Jews and
  • 10:55 Gentiles together in Messiah.
  • 10:57 Jews and Christians - it makes me understand why the scripture
  • 11:00 says in Psalm 100...
  • 11:02 [speaking Hebrew]
  • 11:04 We enter His gates with thanksgiving.
  • 11:07 The nations are going to come up to worship the Lord in the end times, in the millennial times.
  • 11:13 We're seeing a taste of that now especially through the
  • 11:17 International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem.
  • 11:20 David Parsons, their media director, has told us and is
  • 11:23 about to tell us on the interview the incredible growth
  • 11:26 in the nations coming up and joining them to celebrate Sukkot
  • 11:30 the Feast of Tabernacles every fall.
  • 11:32 It's really a phenomenon.
  • 11:34 So let's go to my interview now with David Parsons.
  • 11:39 Well the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem was founded
  • 11:42 under unusual circumstances that gave birth to our unusually long
  • 11:48 name. We were founded in the summer of 1980 when under the
  • 11:53 threat of an Arab oil embargo.
  • 11:56 The last 13 nations that had their embassies in Jerusalem
  • 11:59 were forced out and moved down to Tel Aviv to join the American
  • 12:04 the Canadian, the British, and other embassies down in Tel Aviv
  • 12:08 And there came a moment where not one nation in the world was
  • 12:12 willing to stand with the 3,000 year old Jewish claim and
  • 12:16 connection to this city.
  • 12:18 About 1,000 Christians from 40 countries were gathering in
  • 12:23 Jerusalem right as the last diplomats were leaving in order
  • 12:28 to mark the biblical Feast of Tabernacles.
  • 12:31 Of Sukkot, which is of the three great pilgrimage feasts the
  • 12:34 Jewish people were given under Moses.
  • 12:37 This is the one where the Gentiles are also invited to
  • 12:40 come up and celebrate.
  • 12:42 The Christians gathered here for this celebration.
  • 12:46 They got it. They understood that the Jews have had an attachment.
  • 12:51 God attached the Jewish people to this city long before the
  • 12:54 rise of Christianity or Islam.
  • 12:57 They are the true custodians of this city.
  • 13:00 It needs to be shared as a House of Prayer for all people.
  • 13:03 They are the proper builders of Jerusalem and custodians of it.
  • 13:07 We understood this. These Christians wanted to leave
  • 13:10 behind a permanent representation in Jerusalem
  • 13:14 of a growing Christian world view, biblical world view which
  • 13:22 says Israel is still important to God and the restoration of
  • 13:26 Israel has great biblical significance.
  • 13:29 So the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem was
  • 13:31 established in September of 1980 to represent Christians from all
  • 13:35 over the world who have a love and concern for Israel and the
  • 13:39 Jewish people and particularly want to stand as an act of
  • 13:42 solidarity within their claim to Jerusalem.
  • 13:45 It's an emotional thing for me listening to you because I wish
  • 13:49 my grandmother was alive to see this, to know that the day would come
  • 13:53 when Christians would actually stand with the Jews
  • 13:56 The prophets longed for these days.
  • 13:59 Yes, to look into these things.
  • 14:01 So you've seen growth, tremendous growth over this season, yes?
  • 14:05 Yes. We started out with 40 countries represented at that first feast.
  • 14:11 We've continued sponsoring the Feast of Tabernacles celebration
  • 14:15 for Christians each fall.
  • 14:17 That quickly grew into Israel's largest tourist event.
  • 14:20 We've been getting between 5,000 and 7,000 Christians for 30 some years now.
  • 14:26 Year in and year out, even when there's trouble they still come.
  • 14:29 They're very committed.
  • 14:31 They're not just fair weather friends.
  • 14:33 Our crowds now come from up to 100 countries.
  • 14:37 We have a reach into about 140 countries around the world.
  • 14:41 We have established branches in more than 70 countries.
  • 14:45 So, yes, the ministry has grown because the movement has grown.
  • 14:49 For about 10 years our biggest groups at the feast have been
  • 14:54 coming from Brazil.
  • 14:56 One or two years our biggest groups were from Indonesia,
  • 14:59 which is also the world's largest Muslim country.
  • 15:02 Who would think more Indonesian Christians at our feast than
  • 15:05 American Christians. It just shows the growth from China.
  • 15:10 Our Chinese delegations are almost doubling every year.
  • 15:12 From Africa, if it was easier to get visas there would be
  • 15:17 thousands coming from Africa, from Latin America.
  • 15:20 This is where the revival is. This is where church growth is.
  • 15:25 What's very interesting, a lot of these people, they don't know
  • 15:29 Jews. They don't have Jewish friends or neighbors.
  • 15:31 They don't know much about the Holocaust.
  • 15:34 It's nothing against them, it's just not their history.
  • 15:37 Or Christian anti-Semitism or such. They don't have the latest
  • 15:40 "Left Behind" novels or whatever.
  • 15:43 They just have their bible, the Holy Spirit.
  • 15:46 They see it says God's not finished with Israel
  • 15:48 He still loves them. They want to come here and
  • 15:50 express their love for Israel.
  • 15:52 It's really God given.
  • 15:54 That's so awesome. It's a sovereign movement.
  • 15:58 Amen
  • 15:59 I think also you must have seen some changes in the reactions
  • 16:02 from the Jewish people here over the decades.
  • 16:05 Yes. In the early years of the embassy, 30 some years ago,
  • 16:09 some of the founders said it was still difficult to say the name
  • 16:14 of Jesus on the streets of Jerusalem or in some public
  • 16:17 meeting or in a meeting between Christians and Jews and pray in the Name of Jesus.
  • 16:21 It was very still frowned upon.
  • 16:24 A huge societal stigma.
  • 16:26 Not all of that has gone, but we have seen a lot of changes in
  • 16:31 attitude over the past 30 some years where a wider and wider
  • 16:37 acceptance of Christian support for Israel and Christian
  • 16:42 engagement with the land.
  • 16:44 One sign of this for the last 7 or 8 years, we've had an
  • 16:47 official partnership with Yad Vashem. This is the state's
  • 16:51 official museum and memorial to the 6 million Jews who died in the Holocaust.
  • 16:56 It's probably the most revered institution in Israel, the most serious institution.
  • 17:01 The board of Yad Vashem, the president of Israel and the
  • 17:07 Prime Minister of Israel all approved them entering a
  • 17:09 partnership with the Christian Embassy to engage the Christian
  • 17:12 world on the universal lessons of the Holocaust and preserving
  • 17:15 the memories of these people.
  • 17:17 That's a sign there of how far we have come in so many decades.
  • 17:27 When you hear David Parsons speak about the connection
  • 17:29 that's growing between the state of Israel and the Christians,
  • 17:32 you really understand why the Star of David is right there at
  • 17:36 the New Gate. God is bringing this awareness that the New Gate
  • 17:40 which speaks about this new thing that He's doing in
  • 17:43 knitting the Christians into Israel is covered by and
  • 17:46 connected to the very symbol of Zionism and of the state of Israel - the Star of David.
  • 17:51 At the same time all the good that is going on, anti-Semitism
  • 17:56 is on the rise especially in Europe.
  • 17:59 We know it's in the Muslim world, but in Europe it has been
  • 18:02 growing and growing.
  • 18:03 Jan Willem van der Hoeven knows that first hand and speaks to it prophetically.
  • 18:08 He speaks to it and addresses it in my interview with him right now.
  • 18:14 Jan Willem, it is not as though we are without precedence.
  • 18:17 We have Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Oskar Schindler, Corrie ten Boom
  • 18:21 whose legacy you a walking in.
  • 18:23 Can you tell us what your hope is for the church in the west
  • 18:27 regarding Israel at this pivotal time?
  • 18:30 Corrie ten Boom we knew very well.
  • 18:33 We were at the youth revival.
  • 18:35 My father was the private secretary to the Queen of Holland where even some of the
  • 18:39 nobility came to the Lord.
  • 18:41 She was sometimes one of the speakers.
  • 18:44 She lived very close to where my parents lived.
  • 18:47 We knew her story. We lived in Harlem before
  • 18:52 we went to the area where the Queen lived.
  • 18:55 In Harlem, of course, was her watchmaker's shop
  • 18:59 where she hid 18-19 Jews from the Nazi persecution.
  • 19:06 In the end they were betrayed by a Dutch person.
  • 19:13 I think she and some of the others that you mentioned
  • 19:19 show something to all of us.
  • 19:21 It shows us that it begins with prayer, but it doesn't end with prayer.
  • 19:26 Corrie ten Boom's room where the Jews hid
  • 19:31 was a room where for 100 years the Corrie ten Boom family even,
  • 19:36 her grandfather, prayed for the restoration of the Jewish people
  • 19:40 to the land before the state of Israel was born.
  • 19:43 So it was soaked with prayer.
  • 19:46 As I know that many Christians who I know are now listening to
  • 19:51 us have prayed for Israel, but when the crunch came
  • 19:56 and the persecution and the Jews being ripped out of their houses
  • 20:01 they felt we had to do something more than prayer.
  • 20:04 And they opened up their own... risking their own lives.
  • 20:08 She was brought to Ravensbruck concentration camp where Betsy, her sister, died.
  • 20:12 I saw yesterday still a film about the Holocaust.
  • 20:16 You cannot believe what these Jews were suffered, the humiliation.
  • 20:23 They called the road to their final execution Hebelstrasse,
  • 20:29 the Heavens Way to the concentration gas chambers.
  • 20:34 I was saying yesterday when I saw it again, It is so terrible
  • 20:39 what happened to these Jewish people.
  • 20:42 6 million, 1 1/2 million children
  • 20:44 Only a double comfort can put right what happened.
  • 20:49 And that's exactly what the bible says.
  • 20:52 That God says, Now, even through My lips to everyone that is
  • 20:57 listening - comforting, comforting.
  • 21:00 Not once comforting my people, two times because God is going
  • 21:04 to give them double back what they suffered in humiliation, death and sorrow.
  • 21:09 And He's going to do so not just outside the church, but He is
  • 21:14 saying you have to comfort them.
  • 21:17 Yes, comfort them, says the Lord, and speak tenderly
  • 21:22 to the heart of Jerusalem.
  • 21:24 We do that with the Jerusalem March and during the feasts.
  • 21:27 We say, Shalom, and the Israelis are in tears sometime to see us.
  • 21:33 To see us... Where do these Christians come from, because
  • 21:36 they are taught in their schools that Christians have been their
  • 21:40 enemies, that they have hit them with the crucifix over the head.
  • 21:43 And they had "Gott Mit Uns", "God With Us"
  • 21:46 on their belt when they shuffled them into the gas chambers.
  • 21:49 And here are the Christians.
  • 21:51 Ten out of each nation will take hold of a Jew, the sleeve of a
  • 21:58 Jew and say, We will go with you.
  • 22:01 You are to go to be the ten.
  • 22:03 I pray God will touch your heart to be a Ruth.
  • 22:08 Ruth is a symbol of the end-time church.
  • 22:12 She said when she clang to Naomi, Your God, Israel, is my God.
  • 22:18 Your people I accept as my people.
