  • 01:33 More with you, Dr. Seif, in a bit, but right now,
  • 01:34 let's go to Israel with teaching from Zola Levitt.
  • 01:39 Zola Levitt: Well, throughout this series about the future,
  • 01:41 it's been problematic where to place certain lessons.
  • 01:45 I mean, after all, where do you film eternity?
  • 01:47 That sort of thing.
  • 01:48 We didn't have a new heaven, a new earth, and a new Jerusalem,
  • 01:51 but we found something.
  • 01:53 And in this case, we're gonna talk about this last battle on
  • 01:56 earth, the--it's called an invasion of Gog and Magog,
  • 02:00 even though there's a previous battle by that same name.
  • 02:03 I'll make that clear.
  • 02:05 And we came to this area.
  • 02:07 This is the Valley of Elah, where actually David
  • 02:10 had a battle with Goliath.
  • 02:12 This is a famous valley, and nowadays it's the home of giant
  • 02:16 satellite dishes that watch the sky, that send uplinks,
  • 02:20 that pick up signals from satellites, and so on.
  • 02:23 And to stage a battle or picture a battle 1,000 years
  • 02:26 in the future is very hard to do, but perhaps
  • 02:30 these giant discs are part of it.
  • 02:32 In any case, the first battle of Gog and Magog
  • 02:35 you'll recall in Ezekiel 38.
  • 02:38 This is the one we call the coming Russian invasion
  • 02:41 of Israel sometimes.
  • 02:43 Dr. McCall and I have written a book that has been updated
  • 02:46 steadily as this battle seems to draw closer.
  • 02:50 The chapter begins in Ezekiel 38 this way,
  • 02:52 "And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
  • 02:55 Son of man, set thy face against Gog,
  • 02:59 the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech
  • 03:02 and Tubal, and prophesy against him, And say,
  • 03:05 Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I am against thee,
  • 03:07 O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal."
  • 03:11 So we have a place called Magog and a leader called Gog,
  • 03:15 evidently, and its capital cities are Meshech and Tubal,
  • 03:19 which always suggested Moscow and Tobolsk in Russia,
  • 03:22 but don't know.
  • 03:24 Place names change over time.
  • 03:26 And he describes an invasion here and he gives some allies
  • 03:29 in the fifth and sixth verses.
  • 03:32 "Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with
  • 03:35 shield and helmet: Gomer, and all his bands;
  • 03:38 the house of Togarmah of the north quarters,
  • 03:41 and all his bands: and many people with thee."
  • 03:44 It's a very reasonable and logical invasion of Israel
  • 03:47 that could happen any time.
  • 03:50 Persia, which is the Iran/Iraq complex, even including Syria
  • 03:54 and Jordan in the great days of the Persian Empire.
  • 03:58 Ethiopia, of course, the voices from the south, and Sudan,
  • 04:05 and perhaps southern Egypt is involved.
  • 04:08 And Libya, it goes without saying.
  • 04:10 Gomer refers to the area in southern Europe
  • 04:15 around the Danube.
  • 04:17 That is Bosnia, that sort of area.
  • 04:19 And Togarmah of the north quarters would be north
  • 04:23 of the Caucasus Mountains.
  • 04:26 It makes a reasonable invasion.
  • 04:28 In fact, I would say more than reasonable.
  • 04:30 I would say at 2,500 years range, it's quite a prophecy.
  • 04:35 Who would like to prophesy what might happen in Europe say
  • 04:37 2,500 years from now?
  • 04:39 Anyhow, there is this invasion and it's before
  • 04:44 the Tribulation--well, at the beginning of the Tribulation.
  • 04:47 I'll give you the reason why I think that.
  • 04:50 It says, "Thou shalt say," in verse 11,
  • 04:52 "I will go up to the land of unwalled villages;
  • 04:55 I will go to them that are at rest,
  • 04:56 that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls,
  • 04:59 and having neither bars nor gates."
  • 05:01 It's a pretty good estimation of modern Israel.
  • 05:05 "To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand
  • 05:08 upon the desolate places that are now inhabited."
  • 05:11 See, Israel was dispersed and now is back.
  • 05:14 "And upon the people that are gathered out of the nations,"
  • 05:16 that certainly describes the Jews, "which have gotten cattle
  • 05:20 and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land," and so on.
  • 05:22 And he goes on to describe quite an invasion.
  • 05:26 He's against it, that's for sure.
  • 05:28 "Thus saith the Lord God; Art thou he of whom I have spoken
  • 05:31 in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel,
  • 05:35 which prophesied in those days many years
  • 05:37 that I would bring thee against them?"
  • 05:39 That's Ezekiel 38:17.
  • 05:41 And it goes on, "And it shall come to pass at the same time
  • 05:44 when Gog shall come against the land of Israel,
  • 05:46 saith the Lord God, that my fury shall come up in my face."
  • 05:50 And, oh, he's angry.
  • 05:52 And the next few verses are some of the most vituperative
  • 05:55 verses in the Old Testament.
  • 05:57 In verse 22, "I will plead against him with pestilence
  • 06:00 and with blood; I will rain upon him, and upon his bands,
  • 06:03 and upon the many people that are with him,
  • 06:05 an overflowing rain, and great hailstones,
  • 06:08 fire, and brimstone."
  • 06:10 God doesn't like this invasion, and he wipes it out on his own.
  • 06:14 God has fought some of Israel's battles.
  • 06:16 We're gonna talk about that.
  • 06:18 Ezekiel 39:9 tells us that they're gonna have to burn
  • 06:23 the weapons for seven years after this big battle,
  • 06:25 and that's what urges me to put it at the beginning
  • 06:28 of the Tribulation.
  • 06:29 Otherwise, it would be-- if it were part of Armageddon
  • 06:32 as some teach, gosh, those seven years would be
  • 06:35 sticking out in the kingdom.
  • 06:36 There'd be peace on earth, the lion lying down with the lamb,
  • 06:39 everyone worshiping the Lord at the Feast of Tabernacles,
  • 06:42 and people busy burning weapons
  • 06:44 and burning weapons for seven years.
  • 06:46 It just doesn't sound right.
  • 06:47 The 7-year period would work if it's right at the beginning
  • 06:50 of the Tribulation and I think that's what will happen.
  • 06:54 Now, Revelation 20, verses 7 to 9,
  • 06:57 which are definitely at the end of the kingdom,
  • 06:59 have another battle called Gog and Magog.
  • 07:02 It says clearly, "And when the thousand years are expired,"
  • 07:06 no question that's the end of the kingdom,
  • 07:08 "Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,"
  • 07:10 where he has been bound, "And shall go out to deceive
  • 07:12 the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth,
  • 07:15 Gog, and Magog, to gather them together to battle:
  • 07:18 the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.
  • 07:20 And they went up on the breadth of the earth,
  • 07:22 and compassed the camp of the saints about,
  • 07:25 and the beloved city," that's Jerusalem certainly,
  • 07:29 "and fire came down from God out of heaven,
  • 07:31 and devoured them."
  • 07:32 A similar ending, God again doesn't like this invasion
  • 07:35 of Gog and Magog, but this is a different one obviously.
  • 07:39 It's at the very end.
  • 07:40 It's interesting, it's the sinners' last battle.
  • 07:43 In fact, there's argument to say that this battle is the end
  • 07:47 of sin in this world, because right after in the next verse,
  • 07:51 it's the great white throne of judgment.
  • 07:53 So, Gog and Magog number one is localized,
  • 07:57 in our time almost.
  • 07:59 Look, there's no reason it wouldn't be next Monday.
  • 08:01 I mean, every prophecy is in place now
  • 08:04 for this invasion to happen.
  • 08:06 It's logical. It's reasonable.
  • 08:08 We even have a reason.
  • 08:10 With the whole world, with the media turning against Israel in
  • 08:12 what I've come to call the CNN war, 'cause there's no war here,
  • 08:15 but they say there is, with the world turning against Israel,
  • 08:20 then you have a situation where an invasion
  • 08:23 like this becomes logical.
  • 08:25 There's reason for it.
  • 08:27 But it's localized against Israel, only Israel.
  • 08:31 It's not a rebellion against the Lord who's not here now,
  • 08:35 and hasn't come back now, and won't come to the earth
  • 08:38 until the second coming.
  • 08:40 And so, it's a different battle.
  • 08:43 Also, Gog and Magog number two, the end of the kingdom,
  • 08:48 is a worldwide battle.
  • 08:50 It says he convinces all these nations and so on,
  • 08:53 and it is versing* Jesus against his kingdom.
  • 08:57 They are attacking the kingdom on earth,
  • 09:01 of which Jesus is the King.
  • 09:02 Both of the wars ultimately, of course,
  • 09:04 are against God and God knows it.
  • 09:07 And Deuteronomy 3:22 says, "Ye shall not fear them:
  • 09:11 for the Lord your God he shall fight for you.
  • 09:14 And I besought the Lord at that time, saying,
  • 09:16 O Lord God, thou hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness,
  • 09:19 and thy mighty hand: for what God is there
  • 09:22 in heaven or in earth, that can do according
  • 09:24 to thy works, and according to thy might?"
  • 09:27 It's an old story.
  • 09:29 God chose a people, promised them a land, and he's gonna
  • 09:31 protect 'em right on through from the beginning in
  • 09:34 Deuteronomy when they get there to the end in Revelation
  • 09:37 when the great white throne of judgment will happen.

  • 11:51 Now, some of the wars that God has taken care of
  • 11:54 for the Israelis, well, he's really taken care
  • 11:56 of all of them, hasn't he?
  • 11:58 He's their God, they are his people,
  • 11:59 but most notably big battles.
  • 12:04 Exodus is the most tremendous.
  • 12:07 The number varies from 600,000
  • 12:09 to 2 1/2 million slaves left Egypt.
  • 12:12 But anyway, they were pursued by an Egyptian force
  • 12:15 that knew the territory.
  • 12:17 They knew the sand, they knew the desert,
  • 12:21 they knew the harbor.
  • 12:23 They just didn't know that once the sea parted, it could unpart.
  • 12:27 And that's what God took care of for them,
  • 12:29 so their original deliverance out of Egypt
  • 12:32 certainly was a God-given miracle.
  • 12:36 Then when they came to Jericho, you know, they were facing
  • 12:40 a city with walls 11 feet thick, by the way.
  • 12:45 And on top of those walls, archers, and spear throwers,
  • 12:50 and people who were used to being attacked
  • 12:53 from the riverside had defended the place many times,
  • 12:57 but they hadn't anticipated people coming to blow trumpets
  • 13:01 at the walls and encompass the city round about
  • 13:04 and shout with great shouts.
  • 13:06 And so, God took care of that battle
  • 13:08 in a rather miraculous way.
  • 13:11 Then of course there were the various battles
  • 13:13 with the Philistines like the one in this valley.
  • 13:16 David faced Goliath was one of those battles.
  • 13:18 They battled them quite a lot in these parts.
  • 13:21 The Philistines were Greeks who came down from the Adriatic Sea.
  • 13:25 They settled along a lot of the coastlines in the Middle East,
  • 13:28 plying their seagoing ventures.
  • 13:31 They fished, and they shipped, and so on.
  • 13:34 They had a lot of marine industry.
  • 13:36 And the Philistines were here for a while
  • 13:38 and then they drop out of history.
  • 13:40 There's no relation between them
  • 13:42 and what are called today the Palestinians.
  • 13:44 They were not Arabs.
  • 13:45 There were no Arabs in the world when the Philistines were here.
  • 13:48 And after the Philistines left, you would wait centuries before
  • 13:50 the first Arab was in the world, so the claim that they go back
  • 13:54 to the ancient Philistines is spurious.
  • 13:58 The battle with the Amorites is a surprising one.
  • 14:02 Joshua 10:13-14 says, "And the sun stood still,
  • 14:07 and the moon stayed, until the people
  • 14:10 had avenged themselves upon their enemies."
  • 14:13 Of course, this is an amazing day.
  • 14:15 The Scripture goes on, "So the sun stood still in the midst
  • 14:18 of heaven, and hasted not to go down for about a whole day.
  • 14:22 And there was no day like that before it or after it,
  • 14:25 that the Lord hearkened unto the voice of a man:
  • 14:27 for the Lord fought for Israel."
  • 14:30 And that is what he did at that time.
  • 14:32 The battle with the Amorites was one of many
  • 14:35 that he interceded in remarkable ways.
  • 14:39 And Israelis lost some battles, too, for sure.
  • 14:42 The ten lost tribes were carried off.
  • 14:44 The tribes of Judah finally carried off also.
  • 14:48 But in those cases, God said, "I'm gonna punish my people.
  • 14:52 I'm gonna bring the families of the north, and Nebuchadnezzar,
  • 14:55 and so on, the Chaldees.
  • 14:57 They're going to take away the tribes."
  • 15:00 The Assyrians who took away the ten tribes,
  • 15:02 that was another punishment.
  • 15:04 So, it's still God operating a battlefield,
  • 15:06 but this time as a discipline.
  • 15:08 Israel's modern wars, though, if we jump to the history
  • 15:12 in this century, we can see that God evidently is either
  • 15:16 still fighting with them, I mean, fighting for them,
  • 15:20 or they have become brilliant soldiers overnight
  • 15:23 because they have won all these wars in no time.
  • 15:27 I mean, the war of independence in 1948,
  • 15:30 they fought five Arab nations.
  • 15:32 I mean, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon,
  • 15:35 Saudi Arabia sent soldiers.
  • 15:37 Other Arab nations sent weapons, et cetera,
  • 15:40 and they all fell upon not a nation,
  • 15:43 but you know, a few revolutionaries,

  • 15:48 when the British Red Coats came marching in
  • 15:51 and arrived in big ships and all that with their
  • 15:54 fancy weapons, but they lost.
  • 15:56 God fought for his people in the war of independence,
  • 15:58 and a nation, they say, was born in a day,
  • 16:00 like the Scripture says.
  • 16:03 The war in 1956 against the Egyptians, primarily the
  • 16:07 Israelis vanquished them almost overnight.
  • 16:11 The so-called Six-Day War was amazing because it literally
  • 16:16 lasted only six days and Israel decisively defeated Egypt,
  • 16:21 Syria, and Jordan.
  • 16:23 And it was said they could have occupied Cairo.
  • 16:26 They could have occupied Damascus.
  • 16:28 I mean, they pummeled them in six days.
  • 16:31 There was no contest.
  • 16:34 In the fourth war in 1973, the Arabs did a cowardly attack
  • 16:38 on Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year,
  • 16:41 when most soldiers were at their prayers and so on,
  • 16:43 and they did get in a first punch, but then
  • 16:45 in two or three weeks the Israelis turned it around,
  • 16:47 defended themselves valiantly still once again.
  • 16:51 People say that the incursion into Lebanon in the '80s
  • 16:55 was an Israeli war, but it really wasn't.
  • 16:58 The Israelis were up there as part of it.
  • 16:59 There was quite a bit of fighting in Lebanon because the
  • 17:03 Palestinians had moved in there and, well,
  • 17:06 there was the usual friction that seems to follow them.
  • 17:10 And General Sharon, who is now the prime minister,
  • 17:12 and the Israelis were in Lebanon at the time
  • 17:16 of the massacres at Sabra and Shatila.
  • 17:19 The Israelis did not fire a shot, but Sharon was accused
  • 17:22 of not defending refugee camps against the Christian Phalanges,
  • 17:27 their enemies.
  • 17:29 The Middle East is rather complicated.

  • 17:38 In 1987, the children who threw stones,
  • 17:41 it looks as though that's a war but it's not a war.
  • 17:44 It's a media war.
  • 17:46 It reminds me of when the publisher
  • 17:48 William Randolph Hearst said to a photographer,
  • 17:51 "You get me the pictures, I'll provide the war."
  • 17:54 If you have a lot of newspaper, you have TV especially,

  • 18:10 We've seen it right along.
  • 18:12 Presidents drum up wars overnight to fake the headlines
  • 18:15 away from some mistake they've made and so forth.
  • 18:19 This is not a war, but it's an unpleasant situation.
  • 18:23 We've had it in America too, which is that poor people
  • 18:26 get angry, they riot.
  • 18:29 There are problems.
  • 18:30 We just finished having it in Cincinnati,

  • 18:42 Well, that ending invasion at the end of the kingdom,
  • 18:46 that last invasion of Gog and Magog is significant

  • 18:53 the last sin.
  • 18:55 You know, the first sin was way back in the Garden of Eden.
